    Akovia,

I agree it is crazy and I was stunned the first time. Here are a few of mine from the past 18 months: I picked up 3 rolls of which one was written in a big marker "silver" and a second "6 silver" as the teller gave them to me she said "Here, these have silver in them." Another teller pulled out a roll and said you will like these they are all silver and proceeded to open the roll and dump them out to show me. In Walmart, a lady paid with 2 walkers and 18 silver halves. The cashier asked if I wanted them as she did not want to have them in her drawer. Just last week I was at a small town bank and the teller next to the one I was talking to overheard me ask and hollared to the drive through..."Maria, you still have those silver half dollars?" Maria gave me a roll containing 6 90% and 14 40%. About a month ago a teller gave me 8 rolls all silver.

In fact, I have all but given up box searching as it seems not much makes it to the boxes in my area. But I have a netweork of tellers that call me when they get halves. For example, one called me yesterday that I had not talked to since last summer as she had moved banks but she had kept my number. I went and picked up some customer rolls from her today and found silver.

It is nutts but people give it away knowing what it is....

    Wow!
I can't even imagine. I think in my case I'm like Merc Crazy. I believe most of it gets hoarded around here and I just got extra lucky. From the contents of the rolls I normally get, It's pretty clear that they are someone else's dumps. I guess I just need to get lucky in finding some nice tellers that haven't already been plucked and bring them cookies from time to time. =D

Until then I guess I'll pay my dues being somewhat new to this and play the numbers game till then. Even collectors miss things from time to time I'm hoping. (not so much missing silver, but errors)

    Merc Crazy:
I'm pulling for your confirmation on that Close AM. Would be a super sweet find!

Hahaha, If only that were true. Best advice to Akovia: If you find a decent bank or two with high traffic or you hit on silver, it is worth it to take care of the tellers. The one that called me that I had not talked to since the summer was one I gave a Christmas t-shirt to last year. I have given candy, gift cards, letters from my kids, bought lunch, given them coins ( I have one that likes $2 bills for her dad and one that collects Ikes), cards, homemade cookies etc. to my dozen or so tellers that keep an eye out for me. They all started in my town but I had no idea how much tellers move so now they are all over the place. Since I don't have to run around (They call me) it is well worth it in the long run as I save time and gas.

It also means I take some of the "luck/timing" out of it as they hold them for me.

PS What part of the country are you in? (Hope not our turf lol)

I've been following this thread ... and this serves as my first report

1 box of nickles and 10 additional rolls yielded ... 5x war nickles 1x dateless buffalo and 13x pre 60's
1 box of dimes yielded ... 1x silver
36x rolls of halfs and $52 loose halfs yielded ... 2x 40%kenndys and 16x NIFS
oh and 1 silver quater that I spotted in a tellers tray which she was willing to part with nowing that it was silver.

No huge payday but enough to keep spirits up

This is my first message on this thread, even though I've been following it for several months.

1st box of pennies - 5 wheats ('50, '45, '58, '56, '55. Forgot the mintmarks as I'm doing this from memory. Also got like 10 Canadian pennies).

2nd box of pennies - 7 wheats ('42, '50-S, '55, '56, '57, '52, '51). Got a 1960 that is almost uncirculated. Found a centennial (sp?) 1867-1967 Canadian cent. Lastly, I also found a toy play cent that must have slipped into one of the rolls. Not worth anything but still a cool novelty find.

    3rd box of pennies - 2 wheats ('45, '57)

    4th box of pennies - All 2010-D :(

    5th box of pennies - 7 wheats (two '55-D, 1917-D (my best find for pennies yet), 1919, '41, '46

    1st box of nickels - 1 1942-P War nickel, roughly 15 pre-1960 nickels

1st box of dimes - Skunk (they were rolled in those clear plastic rolls so I didn't want to break the rolls and be forced to dump them. I checked them by their edges instead. I'll go back to them again with a magnifying glass to double check before I send them back to the bank).

Just heard the most interesting little tidbit, for those who search bank ordered boxes of halves...

Fed has ordered all the major coin processors (Loomis, Brinks, etc) to weigh bags, and anything off low must be manually searched, and silver extracted.

Can't confirm it, but my source is someone who'd be in a position to know, and has no reason to make up such a story.

Hello CT been off here for months site wouldn't let me log in until today, crazy. I was wondering if much silver is found in the dime and quarter rolls compared to the halves? I figured with allthe new quarters out there you would have to go through alot but didn't know about dimes. Just Curious.

This is the latest culling theory. Somebody knows somebody who knows somebody. All based on hearsay. When I stop pulling silver is when I'll start believing anything. But, if you have any concrete evidence that the FED is requiring this, please share.
