The Collection Commemorating Prince Philips 90th Birthday 400th Anniversary of the Kings James Bible 500th Anniversary of the maiden voyage of the Mary Rose. Cardiff in the Cities Series Edinburgh in the Cities Series 50th Anniversary of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) I absolutely love the 50 pence, I think I shall purchase the silver peidfort version.
The £5 piece I find attractive. This portrait of Prince Philip looks more interesting to me than that of Prince Charles two years ago. The King James Bible coin looks good too. Had the £5 denomination been picked for that occasion (with more space for the design), then I would have preferred the 1611 front page, or some part of it. On the smaller £2 coin the letters/sorts are better, I think. What I do not like is the different font sizes (or even fonts?) used on the obverse and reverse, and that one side has two dot/pearl circles while the other side has none ... The Mary Rose coin and the £1 coins - oh well, not great but not dull either. The 50p coin is interesting indeed; reminded me of hieroglyphs. I first wondered about elements such as the car, but since the WWF is not just about preservation but about a sustainable coexistence (here in Europe it is called "World Wide Fund for Nature"), even that makes sense. By the way, while I do not collect the London Olympics coins, one design I find interesting and amusing: The Football 50p coin does not show a ball or a player but a drawing which explains what "offside" is, hehe. I really, really, really LOVE the shield set. I need to have one! I wish I could find it here in the US
Should not really be difficult ... http://rsmint.com/unitedkingdom.aspx Try "mint sets" (BU), or "proof sets". http://www.eurocollections.com/store/products.asp?id=313 You want a 2009 or later set. Christian
I wasn't thinking at all! I have a chef friend in London! We usually talk food, cigars and scotch, it never once occured to me to ask if he could get the proof set for me! I will have it in a week! :u*meY: the deal is I have to take him to the Green Iguana in NYC for margaritas the next time he visits the states. Ya dont have to twist my arm for that one
I'm waiting on my 2011 $2 Brit Proof to arrive. It will probably get here before my U.S. Mint ASE Proof .
God Save The Queen. God shine his grace on the Empire. And God save that Prince Phillip coin. God love him, he's a Saint, but he's looking a little like Jimmy Durante with that likeness portrayed.....
Agreed 100 % gee it is the dog of the entire set sorry to say ...I love to have one of these sets -the Prince The late Queen Mum would of been a better choice! Yes the prince coin looks as if could use a side car to carry his nose! But the shields coins are the bomb!
Sounds like fun. Great if you can get a set that way! :thumb: I ordered some 2011 coins from the Royal Mint the other day (not in proof though), including the commems that eddyk showed us here ... Christian
The Empire was rebranded as the Commonwealth of Nations many years ago. It is rude to call it by the old name.
i have a standing order with the royal mint for new proof sets released each year and will getting it soon through the mail, of the new coins my favourite is the 50p very imaginative design
over the past 15 years the standard and design of uk coins has improved tremendously, they used to be well struck but boring. the designs now are really superb and imaginative........
