Sorry to hear you got a hazy coin too. If they are this prevalent there is certainly a chance many will continue to turn up, eBay and everywhere else. It will be interesting to see/know, if it could be determined, how many of these coins may be rejected by collectors and if dealers will only pay melt/junk prices in the future, potentially even sending them to the melting pot. If enough suffer from these problems and get melted it could dramatically reduce the overall mintage, which is supposed to be estimated at 200k per month while in production. Just something to think about and watch out for.
My 2010 Proof Silver Eagles arrived today in an outer shipping box that looked like it was banged around, but inside ALL of my ASE are STUNNING! I'm not a professional grader but if they are all not a PF70 then they certainly must be a PF69. I'm very happy. :>)
I received my coins today! Out of 100 coins I sent back 3 (1 had spots, 1 was scratched, and 1 plastic case was cracked). The rest are stunning! I picked out 7 I am going to get graded and the rest are already sold on the bay.. It was a fun morning I will post pics later. Edit: 4 coins did have some lint in the case that I blew out with some canned air and 1 plastic case had a small black speck in the plastic. I replaced the case with one from the group I am submitting.
Was the shipping on 100 ASE also $4.95? Generally 20% of the Mint proofs submitted for grading come back PF70. Why are you "only" submitting 7 to be graded?
Shipping was still only $4.95 and they upgraded me to next day air. I am only submitting 7 coins because I only have 7 left over right now so I picked out 7 good ones to submit.
Interesting... Only one had the spots. I guess that the five I got with that haze was just particular to my batch. Thanks for the update/breakdown.
The US Mint web site is down right now, but the FAQ has your answer... Any order containing precious metals over $300 in value is automatically upgraded to expedited delivery at no additional fee.
I received my single coin today from the mint and it's a nice coin free of the spotting/haze that many have come across. It was a subscription coin. It appears most batches got through ok, but it's a real shame that so many batches were subjected to the process that causes the spotting/hazing. At $50 a coin; one would expect better. But the mint has us collector's by the cajones...they send us garbage, we send it back, they send the same garbage to someone else, they send it back...repeat...until one of the collectors keeps it. Then the mint will deem this too much time/$$$ and then just stops making the PF ASEs again; "NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!" It's too early to tell, but those who pre-purchased MS-70s from feebay may have gotten a real bargain, as I'm betting MS70 2010s will be far and few between. -LTB
The regular label NGC PR70 ASEs on Modern Coin Mart have already jumped from $95 last week to $109 this week. This may reflect MCM's diminishing stock of this particular label, black friday and cyber monday pricing... but the price is bound to increase unless individual submitters get back loads of 70s.
So how does it work getting these coins graded? I have never done it and dont know how...is it worth getting them done....NEWBIE here
I'm gonna say don't do it but I'll probably get my ears boxed for sayin' (writing) so. I like everything in OGP (original government packaging) but there's so many folks that feel the need to get that '70. My advice? Don't get caught up with the 'hype". Real men (and women) collectors don't get caught up in the "hype". Just a personal opinion. Now all you guys, that bought scads o' these dang things hopin' to get '70's, don't get your noses out o' joint.
Just go to the grading company web sites and read how it works, the services they provide and the expenses involved. It's not really worth submitting these 2010 Proof Eagles yourself when you can (currently) avoid the hassle and buy them for not much more than it would cost you to do it yourself. Also, so as not to destroy the topic of 2010 Proof ASEs I will point you to any number of threads, by way of the 'search' feature to read endless numbers of posts and threads that have debated your question(s) about this.
+1 I wouldn't do it. Expected delivery on mine tomorrow!!!! Hopefully the rain didn't delay it and it gets here on time!!!!
