As some know, i'm working toward a "Radbook set" of Kennedy halves. One example of each Kennedy half listed in Redbook. Obviously, THE key coin of the series is the '98 Matte Proof. After much searching, and more waiting than I liked *heh* THIS arrived today!
Congrats. That is a cool coin to have. Can you post a pic without the glare on the coin so we can see the Matte finish?
Thx, Hobo. And yeah, I'll try to do a decent high res shot later today or next day or so...this was just the hurried "snapshot and post" to brag
That one just happens to be the Type II Clear S, and was the nicest Kennedy i had at the time I needed an avatar. *lol* Thanks, krispy! Thank you much. Set should be "easy" to complete at this point...all it lacks now are some of the fairly recent silver proofs. They're all quite affordable, and none difficult to find...so...not more than a few months I'd wager. Of course, at that point, i may have to fill the early SMS holes in the Dansco album next. *lol*
I tend not to discuss what I paid for any particular coin, cm1. Suffice to say, I paid less for the set than a slabbed example of the half would likely run for, so I'm pleased.
Thats a great set !! You should feel stoked after adding that one to your collection. Happy hunting on the silver proofs. Im also after those as we speak!!
I dunno i'd call it "great", but i didn't get hurt any, for sure. Thanks! yeah, definitely stoked. Definitely known for a while now that I would HAVE to add one for the set to feel complete, regardless of what Redbook said. *heh* Really nice to have it in hand now. Thanks, czar. And yeah, the 79 Type II is a fun one to track down. The difference between it and the filled S is quite stunning once you have them both in hand. Thanks! Well, as it happens, I'm going to need more time on this one. The plastic case just makes a truly representative photo impossible. It's either going to scatter or reflect the light, and i haven't found a way to undo either effect yet. I'll keep working on it...been shooting tougher subjects for a lot of years, I'll be ****ed if THIS one will lick me. *heh* Just give me a bit.
Congrats! That 1998 is an awesome coin! So tell me, whatcha gonna do when the 1964 SMS Coin makes it into the Redbook?
Thanks! Oh, no worries. I happen to be the only person Eva trusted with the secret hiding place of 1,000 sets. Thanks!
Drug out some of the good equipment, dusted it off, and took a couple of shots this afternoon. I'm still not thrilled with them, but they're a fair ways better than the original quickies were. Enjoy.
By the way...I'm embarrassed to admit this, but this was the FIRST time I'd ever seen the reverse of the RFK dollar. I've always been so focused on the half in the set, I never paid the dollar any mind...never even looked for pictures of it. While I'm not terribly fond of the obverse, I LOVE that reverse. Not sure why, but it REALLY appeals to me.
