Until recently finding CT, I had never heard of "lathe lines". What significance do they hold? Do they command a premium? Will they ever command a premium? Or is it just the thrill of the hunt?
So far they are just an interesting find for collectors. They can commonly be found on earliest die strikes. The mint says they are lathe lines on the dies when the dies were machined. The lines disappear during use.
I'll disagree only slightly in that these lines are NOT common on early die strikes. They only show up on dies which were not properly finished after being machined amd ,ost are caught prior to being used. Talking US coins here.)
You are correct. I didn't word it quite right. (Typing and watching tv at the same time) Lathe lines would appear only on the earliest strikes.
