i got this on friday purley because i had seen them mentioned so many times on ct befor. i know nothing about american coins at all. the guy had a couple more of the in almost the same condition. do you think it would be worth getting these too?
underneath the feather, above the forehead, is written the word "liberty". from your pic, it appears that all the letters are visible. it's one of the many areas to look at when grading ihc's.
a full visible liberty puts the coin at vf at worst. (unless there's damage on the coin) if most of the letters of liberty are visible, then it's usually graded as f. it's the easiest way to begin grading the coins is to look at liberty. full liberty = vf or higher, not full = f or lower.
well i can clearly see the whole word liberty on it. how much difference does grade make on a coin like this?
i paid £3 for this and 7 other coins. some george 3rd stuff this was the only american i got but like i say he had 2 others
o cool well i will go back in tomorrow and take a look at the other 2 he had. i would say the 1 i have is at least vf there is very little (if any) visable wear on it, but my grading skills are almost non existant lol
From what I can see on the tiny picture that coin looks AU. http://www.indiancent.com/ - you use to be able to download a grading guide. Plus Rick Snow put some videos on utube from grading IHC's. Good pickup.
As mention Rick Snow site has great information and even a article, available to download for grading here. http://www.indiancent.com/articles.php
ok so i went back to the shop today to have a look at the other 2 ICH's that he had. one is 1892 an the other is 1906. they arnt in as good a condition as the other 1 i got but they still have good detail. i asked how much he wanted for the 2 and he gave me them for free! nothing like a friendly shop owner
