I know that this is an actual printed note. My question is how can I tell if it's a real one? I see them on ebay for like $3 and want to get one because of the interesting factor but I don't want to get scammed.
I can't see a picture. Are you referring to the $100 trillion note? If that's what it is, it is probably genuine, but has been demonetized so it has no value as currency.
Ok thanks for the response. I didn't post a picture because I was just asking in general I guess whether these are often faked.
When I go to coin shows here in Japan, I can always find a dealer or two who has a handful of those Zimbabwe notes. I imagine that once they were demonetized, the Zimbabwean government just sold the remaining stock to wholesale buyers. I know that the Educational Coin Company specialized (probably still does) in buying large amounts of demonetized paper and reselling it to cereal companies, etc., for promotions.
Germany has coin fairs. Why bother with eBay? Patronize a real dealer, a member of the IAPN or other society and you have no problems. Anything can and will be faked. The best way to know is to know. The International Banknote Society (www.theibns.org) has links to online archives of images. Beyond that, you have to actually have the note -- or anything else -- in hand. That's why coin fairs and coin shops are better.
I would like to acquire of collection of Zimbabwe notes that chronicles the debasement of the currency, but don't know who could supply them.
