Nope....not for collecting....for commerce! Does anyone else like using them?

We have vending machines at work that give goldens and SBA's for change. When I drop a $5 bill in a machine, I always get these back. As a consequence, the change I'm carrying usually has some of these in it. Not only are they great for use in vending machines, I like to spend them other ways too. I can reach in my pocket and drop a few of them to a clerk faster than I can open my wallet and grab 2-3 ones. I don't like the SBAs as much because they look and feel like a quarter....but the goldens I can pick them out using touch in my pocket, no need to even look at them.

I really love to use them in commerce as well. You don't get the comments and occasional interesting conversations when you pay with paper or throw a couple quarters on the counter. I am bound and determined to make these dollar coins more widely used and recognized.

I use prez dollars, sac dollars, $2 bills, ikes, and occasionally let out a wheat cent or pre-1965 silver coin into circ.

I love them, carry them, and use them daily! If only we could convince stores to hand them out in change.

I'm not on board with the dollar coins yet but I do like to spend halves and two dollar bills.

That's actually one of the biggest problems with them.....stores don't hand them out as change. If cashiers started handing them out, they would be used more. They will also find is a lot easier and faster to make change with them. Grabbing notes out of a register takes WAY longer than grabbing coins. The knucklehead engineers who design the cash drawers need to put a double-wide dish for dollar coins at the left end of ALL drawers. And, if they had a brain, they'd put dollar coins in the those auto-change dispensers you see at convenience stores. Think of how fast you can close a transaction if it dumped out dollar coins....the clerk could very often not have to pull ANY notes from the cash drawer! There's so many advantages to using the dollar coins!

Give it try! You'll like using them! At first I thought they were really dumb....now I can't live without them. I've actually grown to HATE one dollar notes. They are a pain in the rump! Plus they deceive me....often I think I have a bunch of money in my wallet only to discover they're mostly ones. LOL Do this test: Put 9 one's in you wallet and 9 dollar coins in your pocket. Now time how long it takes to get each of those out and hand them over to someone. I can do 9 goldens in one tenth the time!

I dont get dollar coins much but when I do I usually just spend them. The change I spend all the time is a wheat back or old jefferson's, ive even spend dateless buffalo nickels. I dont like having any of these in my collection.

Get rid of the dollar bills and use the coins, fill the old dollar slot with $2 bills and put the dollar coins in the spot where the halves used to go and they are set.

I AGREE! However, the $2 notes are few and far between. There's just not enough of them in circulation due to hoarding. I can't even tell you how many people have these tucked away thinking they are worth something. They are always amazed when I tell them they are basically worth $2.....even the old ones don't have much of a premium.

Since I've moved to Germany I've found that the EU doesn't have paper 1's, they only have 5's and the 1's and 2's are coins. This is much more convenient the problem is that I keep forgetting that when I plop down 1 and 2 euro coins I'm not ploppin down quarters. This is a very expensive lesson!

BadThad when I saw you as the starter of this thread I thought you were betraying pennies... :D

Can't say that I use dollar coins that often. I never get them in change, and it can be a hassle to pay with them because cashiers don't know what is going on. My own mother wouldn't accept one at a garage sale one time because she thought a Sac Dollar was a Mexican coin, go figure!

It is also much easier just to carry around $1 bills in my wallet, than to carry all those coins.

So for me, I'm not a collector nor am I a user.

I'm a user not a collector. Get them and use them without complaints most anywhere in the city here. MTA subway vending machines dispense them. Bank tellers rarely have them but love to sell the to me when I ask. Postal clerks and grocery store cashiers LOVE me when I ask for change in dollar coins. My reward once was a Proof 2007-S George Washington golden Presidential dollar in change from a deli! A real dog with finger prints but fun to find in circulation.

Unfortunately, not all people share our love of these coins. I manage a Staples Store, and have had the dickens of a time trying to give back as change to our customers. Easily 90% of our customers will politely ask for "Folding Money" as we to attempt to give a dollar coin back as change. We unfortunately, send the coins to the bank in the next business day's deposit. It is really too bad. I think the US Mint has finally gotten the dollar coin right! Good Size, distinct color, just get the Treasury to STOP making Paper Dollar Bills and the $1 WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!! :)

I love using them in commerce! I keep a roll at work for the vending machine. I love the weird looks people give me when i pay an actual cashier.

I however don't like using them in dark fast paced places because they think they are quarters. :(

  21. I'd rather use them than $ bills. Change in my pocket doesn't really bother me. I'd just like to see them used since the mint is putting out so many of them. Sometimes I'll ask for them so I can put them back into circulation.
