A lot of the rush today is probably also due to people, dealers or companies bent on getting First Release submissions in to the TPGs as well as having better chance at returning unwanted (perceived) lower grade worthy coins, and to order more if still selling in a couple weeks, with the chance of getting better than someone else's sloppy seconds (returns).

Well, my 3 December expected ship date on my 5 ASE 2010 proofs has changed to "In stock and reserved" on my track order tab. I'm expecting my "Christmas for Me" shipment in a couple of weeks. After reading the issues with the website today, I'm loving the subscription thing! By the way, you can buy them on ebay for $65.99 if you want. Watch the price increase when it sells out in a couple of days.

I just spoke to the mint. They are taking orders and then making coins from what it sounded like. They said all pre orders will be filled even after the error e-mails (sold out - orders to not be filled) which freaked me out last week when I got it - especially after signing up for the sub last year for God's sakes.

I asked if they will still be available in a couple of weeks for Christmas. She said yes

I think they will be selling these well into 2011 because the premium is so high on it and they are capitalizing on the price of silver.

So, that would mean no idea on mintages. Anyone got a clue on what how many pre orders there were via subscription?

PS I asked about 2010 UNC's. She said no intention to make them at this time. Just keeping you guys posted.

    From Mint News Blog [11/18/2010]:

So first estimate well over 100k plus all of today's activity... your guess is as good as any, but I'd say they are well over 200k after day of release.

Watch CoinNews.net and CoinUpdate in about one to two weeks, they will start reporting the Mint's sales figures, which will be continually revised, from this you can glean an estimate of mintage from one published Mint sales report to the next.

Got my email finally from the Mint. Status changed to Order Status: Your order request is on hold.

  9. I do not know who you talked to but most CR reps I have spoken to at the US Mint (although very pleasant) often do not know very much at all. I would not count on them for mintage numbers, availability, etc. TC

Nothing is impossible but $35 a piece is highly unlikely. It's more likely that silver will be $35/oz in January than these selling for $35/ea.

P.S. Based of current order number estimates, over 300,000 have been sold within 6 hours of release. The original allotment was 600,000 pieces for 2010. Look for a sell-out by December 1st unless the mint ups the 600K number. Almost 1.5 million SAE proofs were sold in 1986.

I would not get yourself all excited about missing out on getting one , two or more . Orders will be fulfilled . The mint can't afford not to fulfill the demand. As for the hockey puck issue, well I think it comes down to equipment and blank's availability, as the mint news releases state.

If they were to up the total it would be a tall order to fill by the end of the year. Especially with demand still there for the regular bullion ASE's.

First year of issue for many modern coin issues is typically a high mintage. The following years of ASE proofs were below, some well below, 1 million proofs after 1986.

That is true, but after not minting any 2009 ASE proofs, 2010 becomes a first year of issue! : ) Kind of!

The point being: If the mint makes an unlimited number of 2010 ASE proofs available over the next 6 weeks (i.e. removes the 100/household limit), they could easily sell over 1 million of these.

Oh, I agree, the 2010 proofs will not likely be a small mintage. But I also don't see anything approaching 1986 proof ASE mintages, not with the record breaking mintage of regular bullion and the sustained demand for unc ASEs. The uncs are over 31,805,500 minted!!!

Keep in mind these coins are struck for collectors, not so much the general public and bullion investors. (Although available to them) If the ANA and other well known individuals are concerned about the future interest in the hobby, perhaps the market is softening a bit, do to a smaller percentage of new collectors out there. Just a thought, not a prediction.

Anybody know an estimated ship date on orders placed today? I know the site now says 12/4

I hope they limit the 2010 proof mintage to 600,000 pieces like was originally mentioned. There is wide speculation over at Collectors Universe's forums the the entire 600,000 piece allotment was gone by midnight last night! In 12 hours they had taken over 45,000 orders and and those trying to order were being put on the "Wait List"!

Now we know of the infamous reliability of the mint's wedsite but 45,000 orders in 12 hours! That's more than 1 per second for 12 straight hours!

I logged on the U.S. Mint's website by about 12:45pm. After waiting patiently, my page timed out in the check-out, logging on again - my order went thru about an hour later.

    Whew!

do you know how much?. if the 2010w ASE uncirculation version is offered. it will be $37.95.

    let's check the previous one:
when proof at $24.00. unc was $19.95. then proof went up to $27.95. unc was $21.95. followed by proof at $31.95. unc was $25.95. and we based on today's closing at $27.37 per ounce. proof should be $56.95 and unc at $45.95.

note: 2007w ASE uncirculated one ounce silver dollar is very much undervalue.

p.s. 2010 5 oz uncirculation should be around $220.95 each. based on $27.37 per ounce. and for 2011 modern commemorative silver dollar if issue today. proof $64.95 unc $53.95. after one month. price for proof $69.95 unc $56.95.
