I sent a bunch of gold coins to NGC as a favor to a friend. Got a real nice suprise on one of them, but 3 came back "details" graded due to "improper cleaning". Any suggestions as to how to go about selling these. They are all common dates. My instinct is that they are worth spot. The cleaning destroys any numismatic value on common date coins, right?

I was thinking Teletrade, eBay or the local coin show.

cleaned generic gold trades in the market place as "jewelry grade". Most large dealers will buy this at a small premium over the melt price of the gold as long as the cleaning isnt heinous. There is no need to crack the coins to sell them, they will trade at the same price graded or not.

Actually, leaving them in the slabs might be a better idea, since that at least leaves no question about their authenticity.
