jfa, RickieB is a highly respected collector on this and several other forums. He is a personal friend to me, and to so many others. He hasnt been around because he has been sick, and having a tough time with the recovery. He made the tough, but easy, choice of giving up the hobby he loved, to spend quality time with his wife and son. While i can respect your opinion that his notes may or may not have looked 'staged' or 'fake', please take our word that they are not fake, and in fact very much real. As many of us started out like you in a search for answers, please follow through with that and learn as we help you to understand. In a community such as this one, we all have somethign to add, and we can all learn from everyone else - newbie, or not. I can appreciate your being new to the paper side of the hobby and this forum, but please speak of RickieB, and anyone else on this forum, with respect and friendship, untill the time that there is a reason presented to you by them, not to respect them or be friends. Please understand, and if possible forgive us, if we seem protective over what may be 'percieved' as negative comments toward RickieB. As i mentioned, he is a valued member and a very close friend to us.

My prayers are with RickieB that his continued recovery is presented with full recovery and a clean bill of health!

    We miss you buddy!

I have a $5 with a very similar error. When I found it in my wallet several years ago I thought for a second I had a floater in my eye. Can anyone provide a probable cause?

is this an error? The ink seems to have bled through?

This is an example of insufficient inkings. This generally occurs when the ink fountain fails to fully charge or fill the printing plate. These examples generally have a premium based upon the inkings and condition, not necessarily the denomination. I would say this example is between minor and more dramatic insufficient inkings, and could go as much as $200 in this condition. If it were in CU, it might go as high as $400. Nice find!!

See the last post for a general idea on price and some information pertaining to what causes this type of error.

Looks like a minor faulty misalignment. This is caused by an improper relationship between the printed designs on one side of the note to the other. Since it is minor, about a 2x face premium at max. Although, it could go higher to the right buyer.

interesting! I didn't know that. The back is like this also I just didn't get a pic of it. Does that matter any?

Would my note qualify as "dramatic?" :) It seems odd that the ink would drop out in the middle of the note, rather than fading off at one end or the other. My initial thought was a paper scrap covered part of the note during printing -- but that would have blocked the ink entirely, wouldn't it?

That's correct gsalexan. In your case, the pics show an insufficient inking. Basically, that can occur anywhere on the note and yours happens to be the middle. I would classify yours as more dramatic than the previous note, but that is also in the eye of the beholder. I'm not familiar with any sort of guideline that spells out how much of an insufficient ink would classify a note a dramatic. Still, a decent premium can be acquired from selling a note like this as long as it is in good condition.

No, that is actually a clear indication that it is a misalignment and would not increase or decrease any premium on the note.

    Hello Friends:

I was alerted to remarks made in a thread by a friend (member) here on CT.
I was so ammused that I had to stop by and remark on this.

For those of you who would like to know, I have been out of the loop here for a couple of months and do not see that changing very much in the near future. Why am I posting this? Well for one it was just to tempting not to respond and for another, to set the record straight.

    1. Yes I am suffering from a form of digestive cancer and have been receiving treatments since early Summer this year. The prognosis...? At this time it is touch and go and I have another visit (operation) to make during mid to late December this year....I am working and have a semi-normal life at this time.

    2. Were my Banknotes fakes (as accused) why no, of course not. Everything I have ever claimed to have, I owned or still own at this time.

    3. I am not sure where people like "jfa" get their information but he/she is just plain wrong and I took offense to what was posted. One of the reasons I do not participate as I once did is due to folks like this, however, it is not the main reason that I am away from the boards. (JFA get your facts correct before you slander my or anyone elses name!!)

    4. I am concentrating my time and energy toward my health and family. When I receive a clean bill of health, then and only then will I begin to consider a full time return to the boards. There are simply more important issues to deal with at the moment...yes I miss posting and seeing all the cool stuff here, most of all I miss my true friends (you know who you are) here on this forum.

    5. The RickieB Collection at least the Large Size will no longer be intact (as of October 19th-2010). As a matter of fact I no longer have possesion of the collection at this time. I do however, have the small size collection with the exception of a few select duplicates and this will be passed down to my family in the event of my death!

I hope this clears up all the improper postings. As mentioned before, do not expect to see me here very much. At least not in the short term...there is just to much at stake at the moment. It is my sincere wish for all you to be healthy and prosper with your collections, afterall, we are no more than mere guardians of what we collect. I hope my collection lands in the hands of many who felt the same way that I do about Banknotes.

    With sincere regards,
    :) ;)

    R.D.B (RickieB)

P.S. One day...I hope to be able to return here, in a different role, not as a Collector.
