Hi guys 2 weeks ago I bought this coin from a reputable dealer on ebay. over 2000 coins shipped and 100% feedback. After recieving it i took it to my coin dealer so he can get it graded by ngc. After examining it he told me it was withought a doubt a fake. I immedaitly contacted the ebayer and he told me the coin is genuine but most dealers can not tell the differences between the 1926 variety and the 1927 v prova variety. I purchased the 1927 V Prova variety. SO what do you think does it look genuine? Below is the coin I purchased and a real ngc graded example.
This link shows a real 1926 R EXAMPLE.

Why not have the dealer send it in to NGC anyway. They'll tell you for sure if it's fake or not.

You said the ebayer told you that "most dealers can't tell the difference" between the 1926 and 1927.... how about YOU? when you bought that 1927 variety, did you buy it knowing what should be on a genuine coin and what a fake should look like? Start there. If you bought the coin blind, bad idea, whether excellent seller feedback or not. Is there a way you can look up the features of the real coin? COMPARE WEIGHTS??

Return it and let the eBay dealer submit to NGC for authentification. If you are unhappy and deem the coin misrepresented, then return it while you can still take advantage of any return policy.

heres the reply message he gave me guys

The coin is not a fake, this is the 1927 V 5 Ari, prova. Many dealers are not aware that this date is availabale aside from the first year strike 1926 and consider the 1927 as copy. but there were 40,000 coin minted, minted with the Prova stamp and I have sold similar coins of this type and date in different metals. If you are looking for the same as the 1926 date, this will cost you $1500 on up as this date was melted and the 1927 was made in its place. But also many of the 1927 has been melted. The 1927 was coin in different metal, copper, bronze, silver, silver combo, but the coin is all original and sold as is. But if you want to return, will accept the return, minus any cost. I am oversea at the moment and once I get the coin back will issue a refund. As I side many dealer look at the 1926 as the only true coin, but Krause list the coin also with "Prove" and listed also in the "prova' Section. Please check the references and if you still you want to return, will accept.

Hey, the guy sure sounds legit to me. He told you what the coin was and left it to you to check it yourself or send it back. But you are going to pay the shipping as is only fair since the coin is as advertised. Just because a guy sets up a business to buy and sell coins, that doesn't really give him an aura of mystery or expertise. Dealers are guys who buy at wholesale and sell at retail. We are always seeing where someone got a real steal from a dealer's stock because they didn't know what the coin was.

If you have doubts about the purchase, by all means return it. $20 for shipping is a small price to pay if you are going to be unhappy with the coin. IMHO

If you can't authenticate this coin for yourself from the info that you can find in references and online about the stamp, the strike hsitory, edges, special features, etc., then return it and learn from this mistake to NOT buy any more coins that you do not fuly understand. I mean it seems the 1927 has a unique stamp or something to it (I don't collect these coins), so you need to ask your dealer WHY he thought it was not genuine, and then compare with the info from this guy about why it IS genuine. It's a never-ending cycle if you run from one to another, and everyone just keeps saying "fake" or "genuine". REASONS! EXPLANATIONS! etc. if you're nervous about your $230 investment, return it and forget it.

Just ask the seller if you send it to NGC and come back to him two months later will he give you a refund. If he says no, then send it back asap. Sounds like it's a legit coin to me but don't lose any sleep over it, just send it back if you're not comfortable. good luck

Did the local dealer point out to you exactly why it was "without a doubt" fake?

thanks for the advice rhino I really appreciate it. I am returning it because it stresses me out to never truly know whether its real or a fake and from now on I will never buy coins from ebay; ones that I cant physically see before me.
Thanks again for your help guys
P.S Hiho we are neighbors lol are you excited for the NYINC?

P.S.S- my 2 local dealers who specialize in world coins said it was fake because the locations of the lettering were offbalanced, many many blotches on the coin, die errors, and the head of the man on the coin was not in the correct position.

Instead of saying you will never shop eBay, why not restrict your more expensive purchases to slabbed coins ? The raw coins in bulk or lots perhaps ? I believe there are still many fine opportunities on eBay and don't think this experience should cause you to perhaps overlook some good opportunities.

    Just a thought.
