I got both emails too. Yesterday I was mad, today I am confused. I guess that is the definition of a US Mint customer.
I just got my erroneous cancellation email from the Mint. These people are really doing a poor job there. Anyway, now I'll just wait and see if my 4 ASE Proof coin come as ordered. Bruce
Since the Mint has stopped taking pre-orders, my question is what is the production / sales of Proof 2010 ASE? The Mint's subscription page is now taking pre-orders for 2011 Proof ASE, which would mean that the 2010 Proof ASE are Sold Out, one week prior to the release date. I acknowledge that some of the 2010 subscriptions were ordered with the intention of returning the less than perfect specimens, and that the Mint will Re-sell these coins, BUT don't you want to know what the Mintage of the 2010 ASE is? I assume that since the Mint is no longer allowing pre-orders for 2010 Proof ASE that they have no intention to increase the original mintage. What do you think?
This is how it reads on the mint website: "Beginning with the day after you sign up for the subscription program, you will receive the next product released in the subscription series". Since they are now showing the 2011 ASE as the subscription product I assume that's what you will receive if you were to sign up for the program today. The 2010 ASE is not sold out and there are no sales figures for the product at this time because the product hasn't been released yet. It's slated to go on sale November 19th at 12 noon. Looks like you might have to hover over the computer on the day of sale Dave. This is probably going to be a hot item so I suggest that you log onto the mint web site about 1/2 hour before they fire the gun on this product. Be patient because the site is going to run real slow. Hang in there, don't give up and score a few......
Green18.. Thank you for the kind, but inappropriate advice, since you made an incorrect assumption. I subscribed for and will be receiving several Proof ASE sometime shortly after the release date, I have no need to order additional copies.
Dave, the 2010 Proof ASE are not "sold out" as they haven't even been put on sale yet. They have only reserved by the Mint for the subscribers, who are yet to even be charged for these pre-orders. And so you will need to be patient and wait for the Mint to publish their sales reports, AFTER the coins are actually on sale for at least a week or two, which you can then use to estimate the mintage of the Proof 2010 ASE while it is still on sale. However, these sales reports only function as an approximate figure for the mintage, which will be the case for some months, maybe even a year or more before it can be called 'final'. As for me, I don't play the mintage game and could care less about those statistics. I advise others to fore go playing that game too, especially with modern issued collector coins that have no clearly stated mintage limit in the coins legislation. The mintage is not why I collect collector version coins and it's not a factor in admiring the beauty of these coins... and these coins, while they may turn out to be lucrative because others want them enough to pay over retail soon after their release or that others feel the mintage is limited and thus the coins somehow may be scarce, doesn't really amount to much objective reasoning, remaining a risky investment. Again, not reasons I'd suggest buying these coins. Buy them to admire them and collect what you like, these will be hot products this year, but far from limited in mintage terms.
Yea, Ken's buggin' tonite. Got Stony Brook (my old alma mater) and UConn on the tube and my boys ain't doin' so well.......
Damage control US Mint Statement on 2010 Proof Silver Eagle Cancellation Email from MintNewsBlog [11/12/2010]
It's a very bad week for the mint. First, they cancel the ASE silver proof subscriptions by mistake. Then, they send out a letter that states that it was a mistake and they've notified everyone impacted by email that their orders will be reinstated. Ok, I haven't been notified yet so they appear to be a little premature on that one. It will be interesting to see if this whole fiasco is solved by 19 November.
+1.....I'm not going to check mine anymore though, everytime I do the shipping date gets pushed back a couple more days.
I second that emotion... but! At the moment, both of my subscription orders now have two status lines, one that has the product name and the quantity ordered showing as "Item is no longer available." followed by a second line below this repeating the product name and the quantity ordered but shows, X number of "units backordered. Expected to ship on 11/28/2010." "Welcome my son, welcome, to the machine!"
Further damage control E-mail snafu makes buyers anxious from the Buzz with Dave Harper, Numismatic News [11/12/2010]
I too now notice that they've added a line on track order page indicating shipment on 28 November. I can think of better ways for the mint to alert you of a shipping delay of 9 days rather than cancelling and uncancelling your order.
