deutsches reich 5 pfennig 1909. could anyone tell me the book price for this? i know with out a picture its hard to value but i was just wondering. i was doing some google research an saw some rediculous prices for them. i will post pic as soon as i can. thanks
Hmm, without a grade and without any info on the mint mark, it is pretty much impossible to tell the possible value/price. In unc, and from Stuttgart (F), it could be about €200. In VF, and from Berlin (A), it would be €2 ... Christian
The 5 from 1909A is in the €40 area in UNC, according to 2010 catalog... the price for UNC 1909F is about right though.
thank you every body. i will post a picture as soon as i get home from work. how would i tell what mint this coin is from?
Right. I just picked the price for 1909A in VF (which is considerably lower of course), simply to demonstrate the price/value span. Look at the photos that Rollbama13 posted - at the bottom of the "eagle side" you see a small letter (two times). For 5 Pf 1909 that should be A, D, E, F or J. Christian
The eagle side is in better shape than mine. the reverse is to small to see detail. Nice coin. Pardon my rudeness, where did ya pick it up? Got mine at a bargain bin.
The 1 Pfennig is in a better condition than the 5 Pf coin, it seems. Apparently a 1900F coin. Cannot read the mintmark on the fiver, sorry, but I guess the value is in the one digit range. Still nice pieces, design and history wise, I think. Christian
i love the desing of them. the eagle is beautiful thats why i bought them. they cost me 20p each from a local antiques shop. he has a box of world coins that he knows nothing about and i have found some great stuff in there
In that case ... you got a pretty good deal. If you later decide to go further "into" German Reich coins, you can always replace the 5 Pf with a more expensive one in a better condition. And if you focus on something else instead, then you still have an interesting coin that you got at a great price. Christian
I really love the designs on some German coins. I took these pics to show that the eagle has a shield of an eagle with a shield! And my favorite is my avatar. I dont have a krause book, can someone tell me what the value is for these 2 coins? 5 pfenning 1874 F - uncirculated 10 pfenning 1900 j - uncirculated
Your avatar is from a 5 DM coin from my country (Federal Republic of Germany). You will know that; just as an info for others. Those 5 Pfennig and 10 Pfennig coins are from the German Reich/Empire (1871-1949). The eagle was the "small" one until 1889; then they used the larger one until the end of the monarchy in 1918. Both designs have the German eagle with a small Prussian eagle in the center. 5 Pf 1874F would cost about €40 in vz (EF) and €130 in st (unc); yours would be somewhere in the middle, I think. The 10 Pf 1900J ... about €10 in vz and €100 in st. Your coin is not exactly unc, I think, but better preserved than the 5 Pf piece. Christian
Oh nice. I didnt think they would be that high. I also appreciate your opinion on grade. Not to hijack this thread, but could you give me your grade opinion and value on 5 more? The, What I think, are the nicest. I understand if you don't wanna bother. I can get my butt to a store and pickup a krause. My grading skills are weak on these though.
Wait ... I just quoted the catalog values/prices for vz and st. Judging from your photos, the 10 Pfennig coin for example is very well preserved but not quite st/unc. On the value side there is something near the left dot which could be a scratch, and on the eagle side the rim seems to be blemished roughly at the 1 o'clock position. But looking at the eagle details, I do not see any wear. The vertical lines on the feathers are "basically" part of the design, so a grader would have to examine them further - maybe there are lines that are not supposed to be there. Your grading skills are probably better than mine anyway. Maybe you could post those other five here, so that we can all check them out and give our opinions, qualified or not. Christian
hijack away my friend. i wouldnt mind seeing the pics for sure but as far as my knowledge on grading goes its probably not worth me giving an opinion
Ok great, I will snap some photos and post them. I always enjoy getting grade estimates from other people and practicing coin photography. If I only graded them, then they would all be MS63+ haha. I really have a lot of them because my grandparents were from Germany and my dad collected coins. But I will post the 5 I think are the nicest. Its really neat because I have some that were in my grandfathers pocket as he floated in the ocean because his ship was destroyed during the war. So, lots of sentimental value to all of my German coins.
i got this german coin on friday. i love the design. the story about the coins from your granfathers pocket is amazing.
