To myself of course. Since the wife knows very little about coins and has just as much interest in them I decided to buy this beauty. A nice clean AU Twenty Cent Piece. An 1875-S and it was at a good price. Only 2 years of circulation and another 2 years for proofs as the public rejected them. It was very similar to the design and size of a quarter. This series had a plain edge. A first year issue from San Francisco with a total of 1,155,000 minted. The mintage numbers dropped considerably in the second and last year of circulation issues. This coin can now be found housed in my Dansco 7070 album. I love early Christmas gifts. Lol
That's one sharp double-dime, there! Mine is merely a humble F12. Haven't gotten around to upgrading it, because I just like it. And it's a Philly. Maybe I'll scrounge for a CC someday.
The Philly ones have a lot lower mintage, less than 40,000. CC’s have a little more but the S is the highest mintage of all and 1,155,000 isn’t a lot either. These coins do get expensive, especially in higher grades.
Wow, that's a nice coin. Always intrigued by the oddballs like the 20¢ piece, especially a looker like that. Good job.
Santa has good taste. Picked a real stunner for you this year @Collecting Nut Your 7070 is definitely looking better today than yesterday. Congrats.
