Chris I understand your point, but I strongly disagree with it. I think most others do too. But as suggested, enough - on with the thread.

Let's keep rolling. This coin was purchased 2 months ago in a no reserve auction. The Numismedia Wholesale value is $27.

    Doug,

You know that your guess is what I would pay, not what you would pay, don't you?

I don't think you paid much of a premium for the toning aspect of the coin , if any at all . I'll take a shot at guessing what you paid to be $45.00 .

Yeah, I do. But the strike is quite poor, the toning is nothing special, and I was hoping there was a little hope for you ;)

And by the way Paul - you do know I wouldn't pay $30 for it - don't you ?

You like Jeff's and that toning is attractive but I don't think it's the kind most people pay a premium for is it?
The steps were close but just missed from that darn hit.
    Pretty coin.

I have no idea how much you would pay for it. And the that is an average strike for a 1950-D, here is a weak strike for the date/mm.

I am declaring ddoom the winner. I paid $39.15 for the coin from Heritage on 8/31/10.

Ddoom, please post a coin or pass your option.

Nice 50-d. Don't see many of those toned attractively, for some reason.

Lehigh; That is a nice example and worth every nickel of what was paid. That toning spectrum is , as you will agree nothing unique. Now the last nickel I posted, which was the Cherry red example, was quite uncommon for me. I have never seen such toning in this series. I almost thought some lipsticked gal had kissed that coin. I guess it takes a good chemistry background to try to gauge at what point in the toning progression present's this color.

It looks like ddoom is passing, the floor is open to anyone who wants to post a coin.
