Do you mean a Five-days War between the Russian and Georgian troops in August 2008, sir? But that war started when Georgian troops murdered a Russian peacemakers in Southern Ossetia. I agree, that war was a rather tragic.
I never used the word murdered. If you are in uniform you are not murdered, that word has too many connotations. No, a friend of the family was killed by Russian troops who "weren't" in Abkhazia. But, I am a war veteran so I understand that no one in uniform is "murdered" per se. We have just described all of the discussions of the history of these regions, and how Russian troops arbitrarily go into another countries legal boundaries, and then you use the word murder? I think either you have too strong an opinion or have listened too long to your own media's portrayal to be unbiased. No offense, but murder has no place in this discussion.
Listen, I love Russia, the "Third Rome". I think its trajic that our two countries are not closer friends. I am just pointing out what I think is a mistake on Russia's part in dealing with these three areas. These incidents are truly poisoning many relations between your countries and your neighbors. Why do you think so many former Soviet States and eastern bloc countries are turning away from Russia so quickly and are deperately inviting in NATO and the European Union? I am not claiming the US is by any means perfect, we were a bully and insulting and borderline genocidal in our actions in Serbia. It was a shameful episode in US history and if I could apologize for it and make it right I would. I am just afraid that Russia may also make a mistake they will regret in one of these three "countries".[/QUOTE] Because Russia was very weak in that period. It is a main reason. But now Russia have a good terms with a most of post-Soviet republics (besides Republic of Georgia). And it is very good, isn't it? I prefer peace
90 years ago, or 70 years before the Soviet Union collapsed. Again, lets strip away Siberia from Russia since that happened "only" a few hundred years ago, ok?
Well, I am not so sure about that. Moldova, Baltic countries, etc. Of course peace is preferred. We all want that, just on what terms.
:sniper: Russian peacemakers was situated in Southern Ossetia upon United Nation's mandate. So, when Georgian troops attacked their camp, they are attacked the UN's peacemakers. And I suppose that it was a murdering in this case.:sniper:
"Only 425 years ago". And when russian Cossaks joined Siberia with Russia, Siberia was a Wild Wild East (as the Wild West in USA).
Exactly. like I said, we have more in common than not, which is why I am sad our countries are not closer. Hopefully someday. Chris
Goodnight Evgeney. I am sure our future conversation will be more pleasant and better served sir. Sincerely, Chris
