Was looking to purchase a 1 oz proof Buffalo and noticed that many of them had a red spot here or there on the frosted portion of the coin. Is this similar to a white spot on the Proof silver Eagles?
It took a while to find one without it. Would most dealers look at one close enough if buying it to knock down the price because of the spot? They were all in orig. govt holder not slabs.

I personally would only buy a proof buffalo gold coin that has been graded. There just has been to many fake coins out there, it's risky buying un-graded coins. Buying from the mint is the only way I would spend the big $$$$ on an un-graded coins, that's just me. Some of these FAKE coins are so good, it's crazy.

I've had a few Buffs with a bit of spotting. On a proof it might knock a few bucks off the price but not enough for me. I'd wait and buy a pristine example. Even .9999 fine gold can spot but the one's I've seen are more of a surface haze.

First of all the white spots are most commonly found on business strike ASE's. Never saw one a Proof myself, but some may exist.

As for the red spots on the gold, the mint has offered the explanation that it is due to small traces of oil getting on the coin during the manufacturing process.
