Does this coin have "it"?

This is a coin I recently purchased and am going to be sending in for grading to NGC. This coin has a MAJOR jump in price from an MS64 to MS65. This coin bids at $950 in MS64, $3,900 in MS65, and MS66's bring between $4,300 and $5,500 on Heritage.

I personally think that if this coin was a common date I could easily see it in an MS65/66 holder no problem.

So what do you think. Does this coin have the chops to make the cut?

IT? Not sure what IT you are looking for, but that coin has more than more any other coin you have posted here. Supposedly, "S" mint Walkers are noted for weak strikes. They ought to add a FH designation for that coin. The only thing that keep me shy of a 67 is that you pix usually show the luster well and this one doesn't quite stand out like a 67.

 

I bought it raw from a vest pocket dealer this past weekend who priced to me at close to 64 money... so you could say that.

 

I agree with Doug, MS65 all day long with a shot at MS66. It might end up in an MS65+ holder as well.

 

Sure looks like (at least) a 65 to me.

 

p.s. I wonder if the previous owner submitted it. IMO, this is not a coin that would be sold raw by any dealer unless they had tried, because, as you point out, there's a huge jump if it makes 65.

Well this coin is packed... and invoiced to be shipped tomorrow to NGC. I put this in an express order so we should know within 48 hours of them receiving it what it grades.

 

The fact that you are spending the extra money on the express service speaks volumes. Congratulations!

 

To answer the luster question... This coin does have average luster...it's not monster but it has what I call creamy luster. It's not crisp and flashy... but it's almost like the look of silk.

 

If the coin was in a old holder. Then yes. The early ones were under graded. All you have to loose is the cost. GO for it. -O) Let us know what the results are.

No expert on these, but that has at least 65 written all over it. If the luster is good, should make for a 66. GREAT BUY!

From the image, it looks very clean and I would think 65, with a fair shot at 66 from NGC. I have two of these, one a 66 and one a 65, both PCGS. Based on images, yours would fall somewhere between the two. Strike is actually not that big a problem for this issue, but the luster will be key as it is often strong for the 34-S.

I know this is a little OT, but I wonder if TPG's are more likely to grade higher if you pay more for their service? I know it's probably a topic that's been beat to death and still has no definite answer, but just throwing that out there.
