Well then I'll guess I'll go with $185 because you seem cheap Or a 3.7x for it. Again I am even cheaper and would pay probably $100 for it.
looks like a 5x'er to me..... $250... However Duke says your more like us, or at least me (cheap bias towards toners vs. market).... so I'll go $125, especially since it was a direct deal without the potential tone'a auction frenzy in play....
As a side note, I would also be curious to know what others might consider to be the price in an auction format. Chris
At auction I'd raise that a bit to the $240 range. But I'm not the expert toning market guru Just a "Frugal" kind of guy lol
In auction ,,,, hummm..... I'd say that one would get 5x on the bay or teletrade pretty easily. I find it very attractive and not terribly dis-similar than those that just went off on heritage for 2-6k.... .. those 2-6k'er I just can't see what the delimiting factors are, other than people saying "they're rare", etc... anyway, I've seen similar blue toned morgan's go for around 250 to 350 on the 'bay and on teletrade,,, so I'll guess ~300 in auction.
I'll guess $200 just in case you got excited And no, it wouldn't surprise me if that coin did go for $250 at auction. Not that I'd pay that for me.
Actually I'm a little taken aback by that grade . I have to ponder a value and come back. Okay, I'll venture a guess at $ 275.00 I think the coin is over graded to begin with., but I can see how someone might easily over bid it too .
I really don't know what you guys are seeing in this coin but I have to dissent. This is a rather common monochromatic toner with some peripheral reverse toning. The toning appears to lacking the luster required to drive a huge premium and in fact, the toning is so deep that from the photos, it seems that the luster is muted. I would be very surprised if this coin went for more than 3X wholesale. I price the coin more in the 2X wholesale range and since Chris & Shane are friends that will be my guess: $100.
I thought blue was one of the more desirable colors..... guess it leads me to two questions: 1 - What colors and color patterns drive the most premium. 2 - what if this coin was solid green instead of blue ?... leading to: can't monochromatic be a good thing provide the color is desirable ?
1) In my experience, rainbow patterns drive bigger premiums than monochromatic patinas. However, surface area coverage is a relevant factor. A coin with a thin rainbow crescent will often be out performed by a coin like this that is completely toned on one side. One of the most important rules about toned coins is that there are no hard an fast rules. Each coin must be evaluated on it's own merits. 2) If you question is would a solid green coin drive a bigger premium than a solid blue coin, my answer would be usually. To expand my answer, I would say, stay tuned to this thread, you are about to find out. The one thing you are missing is that toning is not all about color. True monster toned coins display a combination of both color and luster that gives presents the viewer with a visual appearance so strong that the only possible reaction is WOW! If you have to ask whether or not the coin is a WOW coin, it is not. My biggest concern with Chris's Morgan is the luster, or lack of it from the photos.
Okay, I'm going to give a few more the opportunity to place their guestimates, and I will announce the winner tomorrow morning. Chris
BINGO! And that's something that you can rarely, if ever, judge accurately from a photo. You just have to see them, IMO.
