1956 D Jefferson Nickel Full Steps MS67 Value?

I'm not sure about it getting 67 or even 66. Maybe 64/65. A lot of nicks and hairline scratches in the field. Here's the reverse:

A couple on the obverse as well. I agree with you, as I stated before... 64/65.

Well in hand, under magnification my coin does look cleaner and less distractions than this PCGS MS66 FS: Notice nick on chin, less sharp strike, chatter and marks on reverse...plus obvious nick on steps...

You have a point there. It'll be interesting to see what it comes back as.

 

I do not agree. I count about 6 nicks on the Heritage coin and I see that many on your reverse. Yes, yours is a better strike, but that only seems to count for collectors and not the TPG's. I would not think yours is a 64. My guess is 66 and a 65 would not surprise me.

 

Couple more questions:
Bottom left red circle: Die crack or scratch? Looks like a die crack to me.
Around the WE: is that just stuff on the pic or die damage or ?
Some wear on his head.
Right-center circle: die scratches or scratches?
I think most of the obverse stuff is die errors but asking just the same.

 

With the abraded obverse die as is, I don’t think this particular Jefferson will touch 67 at either service. The reverse is really nice and is 66+ material, but the obverse just does not make the grade.

As far as comparing previously graded coins vs. your example, the grading services go through cycles of tightening or loosening criteria and though it it a good method of comparison, it is not absolute.

I would surmise that what appears to some to be "scratches" are actually Die Imperfections. I have a 65FS with similar imperfections and die weakness, and I think the Op's coin looks a grade better than mine.

 

Thats part of the design on all Jefferson nickels.

 

No its not a die crack...just a bad picture...part of the strike..Jefferson's collar....the pictures really cant do this coin justice...ill try to post better pictures

No wear on head...this is a uncirculated coin that came from a OBW roll...i really got lucky with this one...the seller never said it was full steps...but he had amazing pictures...so i took a chance...looked full steps to me....when i received the coin I almost fainted ....considering i paid $4.80 with free shipping on eBay... plus the seller also sold me 14 1955D/S and 6 1955D/D for under $75.00...0ne '55 D/S with the "s" clearly visable under the 'D' is an easy MS66...those '55's too came from an OBW roll...
