    Hi Folks,

This George III Crown is described as A/Unc with proof-like fields. I'm still a novice but there looks to be abrasions all in one direction. Am I learning to see the these things or is my sight failing me and I'm wrong? !B2Ylrdg!2k~$(KGrHqJ,!iQE)qsnVFu8BMiR-eqf0Q~~_12.jpg

yes it does look like it was cleaned/scratched and I dont see how it is prooflike, but I'm no expert on british coins.

Proof is a method of manufacture, not a condition.

In Britain there are many strikings which appear to have been special strikings but fall short of being true proofs,

These are often described as having proof characteristics.

This coin was not struck in proof, only the 1818 was.

This appears to have wipe marks from cleaning, still desirable though, I would say EF.

"Proof like" is a condition generally refering to the reflectivity of the surfaces.

hi jallengomez.....photo is attached in my post....please just click on it and it will enlarge too.

Re other replys....I recall the seller had 100% positive feedback.

In discussions I've before, the consensus was that it is incumbent on the seller to dislose things like whether the coin had been cleaned, dipped, polished, mounted, not incumbent on a buyer asking the right particular question.

Some replys appear to think I bought it and I didn't for a couple of reasons....firstly my pocket is currently empty after buying a Secundo Crown in gEF plus the abrasions all going in the same direction did look really quite deep and detracted from the historical eye appeal........anyway, I 'm please to have provoked discussion.......thanks CT members..

As you are not buying, it will do no harm showing the item # 310260995440

Over priced if you ask me.

    Hi Marbury

Pity about the harsh cleaning (and as other posters say, done so in one direction, mainly). Apart from that, yes, it's at least gEF - a nice piece nonetheless.

Sounds like a nice segundo crown you bought instead - a better choice!

Yes Andy......a better choice but more expensive......I really want to avoid cleaned or polished coins......my Secundo is posted up on 'what it's worth' for anyone who want a look.....marbury

Ah yes - I'd commented on the Secundo - and yes, that is definitely a very nice piece indeed.
