Questions on my last ebay purchase

So I bought a Supposed "1lb Lot of unsearched Wheat Pennies +2 Extra" or 3 rolls of wheat pennies plus a surprise coin for $16 (including shipping) do you think I got a decent deal.

Seller says there randomly inserted into the lot indian pennies and plenty of bu wheats

I think you paid about 3 times too much.... don't fall for the unsearched wheat penny gag....

 

Okay then, where do you aqquire your coins from online (Mainly Wheat Pennies & Indian Pennies)

I mean even if each and every wheat penny is just worth the bare minimum of $0.10 I am only out $1 so where can I get the same deal 3x less then??

 

But they're not worth $0.10 at minimum. Most common dates are worth $0.02 or $0.03

try to find a local shop and see what they will sell them for.... any more then 4 cents is too much.

I think the key issue is that the website doesn't have anything priced under VF. The prices drop off quite a bit for lower qualilty coins. And on the other end I think I would take any VF 1909SVDB they have for $500 (if graded real)

 

I have enjoyed searching 34 lbs bags from Budgood who is a member here. I have also found some keepers within those bags. You may want to pm him and see if he has any more bags available.

 

Too many to list... my ex made me sell my entire previous coin collection and worst of all cheap, heh I was young then and needed to learn that lesson.

The website is showing RETAIL prices for a little better grade coins, and for the common dates what you are really seeing is not the value of the coin but a dealer minimum markup value. You have to understand that usually it is not worth a dealers time or money to package up a coin in an individual holder if it is worth less than 25 to 50 cents. You take a wheat you buy for 3 cents, put it in a 2X2 that cost you 3 cents, and that the time to write up the identification on the holder and enter it into inventory, if you sell it for a dime you make maybe 1 cent on the deal.

 

It's been said here multiple times because it's true and good advise, but there is no such thing as a lot containing unsearched wheats. At some point, probably at many points, they've been searched, and searched again.

These "unsearched" lots are rarely unsearched, and generally a bad deal.
