She is ugly and worn but still cool to find. Wish I coulda gotten a date from her but ya gotta take em like they come. Found her at an old one room school site. She was pretty deep and gave a whisper of signal. Fun stuff.
Nice! Great find! Going to get me a detector for myself this Christmas..... lol. have not really done any research into them yet. Got any advice to lead me in the right direction? I'm not rich and will probably only use it 5 to 10 times a year..........
I bought me a large cent today. 1834. NOt in much better shape than yours lol. And I really wish I could afford a detector. I would love to do that kind of thing.
Any name brand detector will work for you. Whites, Fisher, Minelab. If your only going to use it a few times a year you will never learn what the detector is telling you so that you can use it to its full potential. You will dig tons of clad if thats what ya want. Thanks, Jim
Give one a test run. Wal-Mart has a 90 day return policy. Buy one offline on the CC, use it for 2 months or so, and return it to the nearest store. All you're out is the cost of interest on the credit card and shipping. I think I spent like, $10 to use mine for a couple months before I returned it.
Cool Find ! I read a thread someplace where a guy was restoring Buffalo Nickles with Hydrochloric Acid baths. Got the stuff at Home Depot as I recall. I remember thinking about cutting the neck from a glass Coke bottle and sitting that in a glass jar as a support for the coin. His were "off" because they sat on the bottom of the glass jar. But he got a lot of restoration of details. gary
Can't give you an exact date but from the strength of the wreath and the weakness of the inscriptions I would say 1853 to 1855. There are several varieties in those years where the stars and the inscriptions were very weak due to worn dies and they are weak or missing even on coins in VF or better condition.
