I found this penny while looking for silver quarters/dimes in an old coin jar. I didnt find any silver coins, but I'm hoping this penny is worth some money. I believe its a brockage error, but I'm new to error coins and could be wrong. Since the error is on the "head" side, the date is not visible. I want to assume the penny is pre 1964, as thats what the majority of coins I looked through were, but I have no idea. I have not had it examined in person yet, trying to get some more info on it first.

    Thank you for your input,
    Nick

Looks like the real deal to me, but this is not my area. you could weight it, to definitely conclude whether it was minted pre 1982 or post 1982, when the composition (weight) of them changed.

Thanks for the reply. How much should it weigh depending on year?

Struck by a mid to late stage capped die. The Memorial design on the cap is enlarged and distorted but still visible and the Lincoln design is just starting to show through the cap.

    Any idea on its value/collectability?

3.1 grams pre 1982 and 2.5 grams post 1982. 1982 contains both weights. Search for it on Ebay, but Coinmaster's response tells you what the book says it is worth. I don't personally collect them so I can't tell you how hot they are, so that's why i sent you to the online market. Good find and good luck.
