Is anyone else seeing a STUNNINGLY high number of 97-D halves in high grades? My last $500 box had enough MS63+ examples that I filled a roll with them...and I didn't even think to start pulling them until 15 rolls or so into the box.

Today's first $500 box has produced dozens more.

Am I the only one seeing this, or was some big cache of them recently released, or...??

I have rolls of the NIFCs but think I'll probably just put them back. I'd sell them I guess if someone would buy them lol.

No silver in a few days for me. Did find 14 coins today that are MS..including 2 - 1987

Hey Yacorie, you can definitely sell them on eBay. If you separate them into rolls by date/mm, you can prolly get $20 a roll, plus a couple or three dollars shipping too.

That's like Tnet all over again.... I think he was just trying to sound big, talking about getting drunk. I hope he knows that liquor will ruin his health, and that it (in my opinion) is the root of all evil. He is veeeerrrryyyy strange. Asked him on another forum if he would join mine, and he said he would, but hasn't yet. Maybe he was drunk when he said that....... :D  - coincrazed

I looked and finally found his goodbye message. I wasn't able to see exactly what caused the whole thing to happen ?

Stopped by a small town bank on my way out of town. Asked for $120 of halves (I was low on cash), and they said just a minute. That minute turned into 5, then 10. I could hear then counting out loose halves. All of them sounded like clad, and I almost felt like leaving because it was taking so long.....I then heard a familiar clink and thought that there must be at least one silver one in there.

Well, I was right.....one 40%er in the lot. LOL. 20 minutes total in the bank. I wonder how many more they have back there. Since they hand counted them, they would have the chance to remove any 90%ers.....if they knew to do it....

I stopped at a bank today in San Antonio and finally found some 2010 quarters. I picked up 4 rolls of Yellowstone quarters, and a couple of loose ones to go into the Dansco......I'll sell them.

Went through 2 nickel rolls on my break at work. I found:

    54 S (woody!)
    57 D
    68 S

    In change:
    Unc. 1978 Penny.

I also bought a Ike Dollar from a cashier too, he said I could have it for a dollar, then I used a roll to pay for gas, but the weird thing was that the attendant didn't even mention it.

The Bank in Pacific Grove didn't have any boxes of cents. They offered to order them for me. I was leaving town, so I got 20 rolls they had on hand. Haven't been through them yet, but when I got coffee across the street picked up a 1968 D DDO in change. Will be home by the weekend and will post a pic then. It matches the DDO-2 shown on the CopperCoin site. Doubled around "GOD W".

Got a nice couple boxes the other day, 6 1964's and 2 40%, rare I get more 90% than 40%. Anyway LTrain is over on Treasurenet now in the coin roll hunting forum. Apparently he sent a PM to someone who turned out to be a kid, so he got banned for his rude words/manner in a PM.

Alcohol is not the root of all evil, I would say that free-will is, though I suppose in more colloquial terms I'd choose "selfishness" as that covers most of the bases - including alcoholism.

Hrmm...that's several days now of reports of boxes coming back to life a bit.

My DBA/Analysis background makes me wonder if there are patterns in this stuff that could be tracked, and perhaps they're less random than the mathematical approach would suggest.

    Question for the roll-searching masses:

Would you be willing to anonymously share your results, including your zip code where those results occurred. The information would be available only to those who shared data, and not to the public at large.

    Just a thought...

I feel like I'm living in a dream world...

Local bank called me today, said someone had dropped 52 rolls on them, did I want them? I figured it was probably another roll-searcher just dumping, so I asked if they knew the person, or recognized them as someone who asked for halves, or anything like that. Nope.

I then asked if he happened to mention where he got them? She said yes, he said his mother had passed away, that these were her coins, and he had no use for them.

Ok...no WAY that can be true, right??? But heck, GOTTA go see. So off I go, and buy up the whole shebang, $520.

Get to the car, and can't resist. I grab a random roll, crack it open, and....

Nothing. Bupkis. Not even so much as an attractive coin or potential error. Complete a and utter zilch. Pretty much confirming, in my mind, that these were already searched, and the "My mom died" bit was some made up sob story to explain the coin dumping.

Oh well...at least I'll have something to do this weekend, and maybe i can find that 74-D DDO I lack. After all, the joy of roll searching is that it's free, even when you lose, right? :)

Get home, finish up some other tasks, and figure "Eh...why not grab a couple rolls, see what we have." So...i did. Both were LOADED with silver, random dates/order.

Grabbed a couple more...blanks. Couple more, light silver. Couple more, loaded again.

Some of the silver was PRISTINE too...SERIOUSLY high grade stuff with full mint luster. Others....classic junk.

What produced such an odd range of 100% Kennedy halves? I have an oddball theory, but don't wish to bore anyone. *heh* Anyone else got any ideas?

    Final Tally

    52 CW rolls

    353 x 40% = $176.50
    25 x 1964 90% = $12.50

The numbers above include 1 roll of AU-BU 1967, 3 rolls of mixed AU-BU 40%, and 64, 67, and 69D gems as upgrades to my set.

Wow nice. I was gonna come in here and brag about my 13 silver dimes today, but that pales in comparison. Halves in my area appear to have been bled dry long ago. I'm going to take the "Call me" idea, though...

went through $100.00 in halves..found four 40% and two 90%...not bad i guess...never looked through rolls until i joined coin talk....the bank i go to thinks i'm nuts, BUT, i have found over the last month twenty five 40% and eighteen 90% halves..not bad for just sitting around watching the yankees and sipping a fine pinot noir!

I picked up $1000 in dimes and $400 in nickels (bags from the customer drop machine)

besides the silver, and 96W, what should I be looking for in these?

    $40 in halves as well - mostly 70's and a few 80's
