What was the oldest piece you've ever found in circulation?

  1. Out of curiousity, I'd like to see what other people have found in circulation (roll searching counts). The oldest that I've ever found was a 1918-S wheatie in my change at a fast food resturant. What's the oldest piece that you found?

1910 Lincoln Cent. But that was sometime in the late '60s so it was less than 60 years old at the time. I have found older nickels in the last year (older than 60 years).

Recently I have found an 1892 Liberty V nickel while roll searching. Also found an 1891 Dime about a year ago.

Found a 1919 penny a few months ago. Oldest coin I've come across so far. On the flip side, I've released some cull indian head pennies, dateless buffalos and slick back liberty nickels into circulation in my local area. Hopefully that'll make someone's day!

  9. Wow, nice find krispy! I actually only have one Indian head penny, actually (1901). I have been roll searching a lot, and have found some other older wheaties.Maybe I'll find an Indian Head one day

It sure blew me away to find it. I have wondered if an old collector put it back in circulation for someone to find, but even if they did, it reached the right eyes & hands! :smile

  11. Wow, congrats man. It's in really good shape for circulation too. I know that my dad has rolls and rolls of them in the safety deposite box at the bank. I wonder if there's anything good in there. Still not as exciting as finding one in circulation. Actually, just the other day i fouynd two wheaties on the floor in school right in front of me. That's always a good way to start the day

1916 Merc. No D sadly. I think I would've preferred my first haircut instead of the 1916P Merc :(

1945 War Nickel, got it in change after buying an Indian Head Penny, I still think I should have told the guy. Just to see his reaction :)

I got a few IHCs when I was a kid back in the late 60s. Probably the oldest I have found in the past 10 years was a 1940 nickel. By far the oldest coins I see on a regular basis are all nickels. Makes sense: no pre-64 90% silver content; no design change like the wheat ears on the cents; and they are basically all still worth only a nickel (except maybe a 1950-D in real good condition - I have found a couple of those over the years). So basically no reason for anyone to take old Jefferson nickels out of circulation.

Recently I found a 1919 S cent in a CWR. I am not goint to post results of rolls I bought on eBay as unsearched. I don't think that counts ? But recent bank rolls are coins being circulated.

1921-S wheatie back in 1990. My Jr. High Language Arts teacher gave it to me. We were having some kind of contest where each correct answer you got a penny.

My oldest roll find was a 1917 wheatie in G which was last year.
