You nailed it on the head! I explained to the guy that Rainbow Toned Dimes are what I do and that toning premiums are no stranger to me.I continued on to tell him that I thought his price of $995 was a bit extreme.I have been watching this dime in his inventory for 3 months and figured at some point he would budge. I offered him $650 today, which is 22X book and he got insulted. Needless to say he didn't talk to me much anymore and thats the end of the story. Its not the first time I found something I couldn't obtain and I am pretty sure it wont be the last! The price guesses all varied and that it to be expected in the toning market...thanks to all that participated
On the bright side of things...Dimefreak did not end the day empty handed, I have wanted this one for a while also. It doesn't have the colors of the other but it is graded PCGS MS67FB and it had a price tag that agreed with me!
I don't like the images on either of those dimes...certainly the saturation has been enhanced but I am sure there still nice coins in hand. I believe the first coin is probably worth $500...$995 is a crazy price even if the coin was a MS67. I am not a big fan of the splotchy obverse toning on the second coin but the color is still worth a solid premium so I would say that's a coin I might pay $300 for....
Well shane I was depending on you to make coin number two look amazing But I obviously agree with you about the original coin. He pulled the ol' "I got another buyer for it" trick. Must not realize i have been watching it sit in his inventory for months
Another toned Merc Here's my nicest toned Mercury dime which has seen some circulation. It has been featured in various advertising and a few website banners, with my permission.
There's also a $12000.00 Buffalo Nickel on his site that has some awesome toning. In fact, it appears that he specializes in beautifully toned coins. It's hard to imagine someone paying that, but you never know. http://www.lsrarecoins.com/gallery.aspx
