I couldn't believe my eyes when I viewed the US mint site today. I had to pinch myself to make sure that I wasn't dreaming. I've been waiting for this one for two years. I'm in for five.

Worst case senario is that the demand for the bullion pieces spikes and they have to again start rationing which would require them to again divert the planchets from the proof production to the bullion strike production meaning no proofs.

  4. I am very happy to see these on the mint site. Just in time for the holidays as I said months ago. ;) Don't worry...there will be plenty of these to go around. The mint does not like to create rarities.

BTW: I called the mint to place an order for something else, and of course chatted up the rep. She did not even know that the proof ASEs were now on the product schedule.

Oh gosh golly gee that "Moy" guy is a showman. Collectors are a "meeting the demand" segment too. I'll never get over the 2009 delete of this issue.......

The mint decided to put out these proofs because they know that they've let us all down and feel real bad about the delay of the ATB 5 ounce coins! Hahahaha!

For the new $45.95 price point, maybe the Mint can toss in a Proof 2009 ASE with every Proof 2010 ASE order. Now that would be some showmanship! ;)

Indeed it would, but the "showman" is bound by law and can't do that. Perhaps we should inlist the services of Daniel Carr? Oh dear...that's already happened....:)

Of late I don't think the Mint gives a Rats Buttoookus about us collectors....

Not when there's a profit to be made hand-over-fist in this economy and a hungry public for precious metals product

I hope your right but I get a feeling that there will be a temporary scarcity.

Like I said. They don't give a Rats Buttookus about us collectors.....If they did they would have minted the 2009 proofs. Public demand? Rubbish. Collectors are "public" too....

I have both complete years proofs' in slabbed (MS69 or higher) and US Mint packaging. For some reason I can't get myself motivated to order the 2010 proof. It's like my interest went to other coins when the 2009 didn't happen. I'm a collector first and investor second. I'll wait for awhile since the cost of the piece is not utmost on my mind. There will always be some residue pieces in the secondary market. I know it's not the smartest thing to do but I'm still very disappointed, no, p-ssed off; in the Mint's attitude from last year. Perhaps my own attitude will change over time.

There's been alot of discussion on what the total mintage may be. I've been searching but I can't find where I read that the mint probably won't product these up to the end of December. I believe the article said that around December 9th is when they will be stopped. Maybe to get ready for next years issues? Has anyone else seen this, or have any info to this effect? I know everyone is counting December as a full month's production of @ 200,000, but this could be a lower mintage.

I believe that the Mint gave everyone a lot of notice when the Silver Proof Eagles will begin shipping, so that we could get our Holiday gift giving orders in time. It appears to me that the Mint wants most of the orders thru the Subscription system so that they know how many to produce. I presume that the Mint will gauge their production based on orders in house prior to 11-17-10. They will probably have a relatively small allocation for orders received on or after that date.
You can enter a subscription (pre-order) the Proof Eagles now, and cancel this subscription after receiving the 2010 coins if you don't want the same quantity in 2011. It appears to me that this is the best way to place your order.
Most businesses have low productivity between Thanksgiving and New Years and I would expect the same to be true of a Gov't Agency such as the US Mint, which probably has generous vacation and sick leave benefits available to be accessed during this time of year. It is also probably the time of year when the equipment gets their annual maintenance performed.
My long way of saying that I agree with you that the Mint will proabably stop the presses around the end of the first week in December makes a lot of sense.

I`m with Saltysam.....After no 2009 proofs, I`m in no rush to get the 2010s. Maybe I`m too much of a rebel at heart, but not issuing the 09s in my opinion is just low class. I know, We can all argue about the reasons why, blah blah blah, but bottom line is that they could of made a very limited number of them last year. Was the economy that much better in 02 and 03 when they were making their gimmicky hologram and enameled ASEs?........Please.

I got the same message. Four weeks from today would be November 5 and thats two weeks before the November 18 sale date. Does that mean the Mint starts filling subscriptions before they go on sale?
