I have been picking up ASE proofs from various years that are graded MS69 by both the NGC and PCGS for about $58 each from my favorite dealer. (really like those ultra cams) I`m getting some older dates that are slabbed before I load up on the 2010s.

these coins have no numismatic value, why pay so much over spot price for bullion?? waste of money.

How do you explain the numismatic premium of past years Proof ASEs? These coins are created for collectors, collectors willing to pay a premium to acquire them, from the Mint and the secondary market. Numismatic value is yet to be determined. Check back in 2-3 months to see what the prices are doing on the secondary market and for what high PR grade coins will sell for in TPG plastic.

as i stated before, these have no numismatic value what so ever..there are bullion. they are "collector" pieces. paying so far over spot is crazy...my opinion only.

Yes, as you stated before and now acknowledge, it is just an opinion, but certainly inaccurate as your opinion is not reflective of the greater market and doesn't stand to define it.

Ah, you recognize ole Tommy's bird......:)

Collect what you like, isn't that a hobby axiom? I like 'em, I collect 'em and I don't worry about future value. They are beautiful and lovely to behold. Waste of money? Maybe for you. Just don't buy 'em Rawbuyer......and don't worry about us collectors who do. :)

Why would anyone have bullion graded? Sound like the coin vault show!

Who said anything about getting 'em graded?

why would anyone have bullion graded? these eagles always seem to be 69 or 70....they are brand new, of course they are perfect ...sounds like the "coin vault" show that was on a while back....selling suckers all those graded eagles...then they go to their local coin shop to sell them and find out they are only worth the silver content...funny.

To keep them in perfect condition? Some people don't want them to tone or get damaged at all and a slab is the easiest way to try to prevent that. Especially on the proofs.

Same reasons they'd grade any other coin (or note) with or without precious metals composition. Grading is not just about the composition of the coin or your perception of the coin as investment grade bullion vs. numismatic coinage.

when you take the cost of the bullion ( at the inflated cost of $45.00+) and the cost of the grading...well do the math. about the worst investment this side of bernie madeoff!

like green18 said, who said WE are having them graded... the game is to let some dealer get them graded in mass submissions, they get a better deal on the grading fees than an individual typically does, then IF you want a graded example, buy them that way. There is a mark up but not what the individual would incur submitting coins for grading themselves. Also look at silver's performance and how it is poised to perform, the gap may narrow or be surpassed by intrinsic value over the retail of these coins very soon. Mintage is not determined but estimated at 200k per month for the rest of the year. This may be a low(er) mintage coin compared to some years proof ASEs. There were no 2009 Pr ASE coins and collector demand for Proof examples is quite high. These may turn into a quick flip game early on, but by the time that is over and secondary market prices settle, silver may be closer, at or over the suggested retail these 2010 Pr. ASEs will list for. Regardless, collect what you like, collecting is NOT an investment.

    +1 Chris.

I'd never get 'em graded. They seem to hold up rather well in OGP. If the need to get 'em graded bites you, then buy them already graded.....
