EDIT SUBJECT, THEY ARE 1921 NOTES I was in Ct last week and found a set of six notes dates Mai 1931 and they are in German, They seem to be depictions of different moments in Lutherism. the fronts are all the same, a knight looking figure with a shield with a cross on it and the rear of the notes are all diffrerent. Any ideas what they may be? I couldn't get a picture of them but if I had an idea what they were I would get back in touch with the guy and buy them.
I know I know, but I dont have one, they were really interesting notes and I didnt have any of my books at the time, but now that I have the books I cant find them
The date is probably 1921, not 1931. They sound like a set of Serienscheine notgeld from the early '20s. If so, they should go for no more than $10.00 for the set.
I cant find the 1921 set in SCWPM - what country and number would it be? Nevermind, didnt see lettows post
Found this pic, this looks a lot like the notes. This only shows 5 different notes, but the guy had 6 different copies Thanks for your help guys. Why is it that these arent serialized?
This type of notgeld was issued for a collectors market, not commerce. They had minimal face value and did not really circulate. Because of this, there would have been no reason to number them.
Have a look here; these pages show six each. http://www.jetons-monnaie.net/a/aeisenach.html (scroll down a little) http://www.reppa.de/4795-6_x_50_Pfennig-Gutscheine_Lutherfeier_Eisenach.htm (a dealer's page) The 1921 Luther Celebration in Eisenach, Thuringia commemorated what happened 400 years earlier; see here for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_of_Worms#Aftermath. So these notgeld notes were apparently issued by the city of Eisenach ... Christian
notegeld are an interesting group of items to collect. They usually have some great captions and interesting artwork.
