That is one of my favorites. Its the combination of design and technology that makes that one very precious. Ruben
I vote the Walking Liberty Obverse. Why? Because to me: The lady herself is an outstanding symbol of freedom and liberty (obviously). Draped in the US flag (which is actually a violation of US code Title 4 Chapter 1 that I choose to ignore), represents the great nation of the US of A and how it surrounds us, keeping us safe. The flag flowing aloft and free shows the freedom the US flag represents and how it should never be controlled or restricted. Walking eastward towards the sunrise, symbolizes the dawning of a new day and a new start. Also, when interned, your remains is faced east. As previously working in funeral honors, this has great significance to me. With oak and laurel branches, she symbolizes the honor to the American people and to those who are/have served in the military. A much needed symbol. The one thing lacking is a symbol of strength.
Haha. I think the real reason she's walking east is something with europe and the world wars. I don't remember
Bingham was also the model for multiple portraits by painter Gilbert Stuart. Legend has it that Bingham is therefore the model for Lady Liberty on the American "Draped bust" coinage (multiple denominations) during the first decade of the 19th century, but this has not been proven. I often envision Anne and I together in the quiet bank vault as I watch her open the safety deposit box, slowly reach in and tenderly hand me a 1795 half dollar. Our hands touch, she hides her ivory face as I take the coin to once again gaze upon the true beauty this particular coin design relays. As I pay more attention to the coin, Ann seems to have mysteriously disappeared and only the fragrance of lilac lingers in the air. I once again return the coin to the metal box and inform the teller I am ready. The box is slid back into the black hole and double key turns secure the contents until the next visit. I will not wait quite as long this next time, perhaps then Ann will speak to me.
Funny you should say that. Yours is a spectacular coin with the great beauty. Never the less, I think te Gualds are the most overrated design EVER What makes it special is that it was first...but I believe that the SLQ, Merc, Buffalo Nickel, 1/4 and 1/2 eagles, are all far beter... Now that is just my opinion Ruben
Favorite circulating coin design...the reverse of the Kennedy half. Favorite design overall....the reverse of the 92 Columbus Dollar. Favorite Bullion design....the 2000 Lunar Dragon from Australia
