Are any of you Numismatic News subscribers having trouble getting your issues on time? In the past 3 1/2-4 months my issues have been late or not showing up at all seven times. They got the post office to put a watch on it, but it was like pulling teeth to get NN to do anything about it. They told me it had to be three issues in a row before they would do anything. Couple of times it came late two weeks straight, then it would come on time, then two straight weeks straight again it was late. I have subscribed to other magazines in the past, but never had a problem like this.
Oh Yeah! But I do not mind, I go a week without an issue, maybe ten days, then I get two either the same day or one will arrive two days in a row. Steve
For whatever reason this is common with all coin magazines, not just NN, and it always has been. It has nothing to do with the magazine people and never has. It's the Post Office, every single time. And the reason that the magazine says you have to have 3 issues not show up in a row before they can do anything is because that's what the Post Office tells them - meaning that the Post Office will not investigate until that happens. Now as to what actually happens there is no way to say. But I suspect that it could be one of several things. 1 - it just gets lost in the system for a time. This is the most likely as it happens to almost all mail from time to time, bit to magazines more often than others because of the nature (shape, size, configuration, and no exterior packaging) of magazines. 2 - somebody at the Post Office has "borrowed" your magazine and is reading it before putting it back into the system and on its way to you. 3 - somebody at the Post Office just plain took it home with them. Now those are really about the only things it can be.
Well the magazine finally came today. Three days late longest time yet. GDJMSP you are right it looked like it had been read.
They are not wrapped at all. Exception - the issue that only comes out once a month is wrapped. No other is.
Rushmore If it looks like it was read take it to the Postal Inspector, tell them you want to make a complaint and explain what has been going on(mail late, looks read). The Post Office frowns on thier employee's reading other peoples mail. In another life I worked with some Postal Inspectors.
Yeah, the first issue of the month, every month. That one is their special issue that has all the other stuff in it. The other 3 issues a month are not wrapped in any way, shape or form. However, you can pay extra to Coin World and have every issue wrapped if you wish - but only if you pay extra. Now if you like I'll have Beth Deisher herself confirm that for you, but what I have said above is 100% accurate.
Go For It! There Website AND Circulation Department disagree. Perhaps Mrs. Deisher has more important things to do than spend some time in the mailroom??
I don't buy the Post Office business. NONE of my other mags(and there are many) are like this. I could see postal employess "borrowing" Playboy, but not Numismatic News.
While we wait for emails to cross, you could always try looking at their web site - http://www.coinworld.com/ You'll see that they state the Speical Edition, the once a month issue, is the the one that is wrapped
Harder to get away with "borrowing" a Playboy because they ARE shipped in a plastic wrapper. (And I'm sure i have had NN and Coin Worlds "borrowed" in the past.)
No your fine, its me who is the pot calling the kettel black, I was breaking threads without thinking for a while, I have been laying low so Doug wont get me... Steve
