Nice, but I have to admit the obverse fingerprint bothers me.

For certified coins, the going prices based on my experience are as follows:

    MS65BN: $65-$80 or so
    MS65RB: $85-$125 or so
    MS65RD: $150-$225 or so

Brown Copper is almost impossible for anyone except Todd.

Figured this would be a good spot to post instead of starting yet another 1909 VDB thread...

Went to the Long Beach coin show this weekend and came across a dealer who recently sent a few original rolls of 1909 VDBs into PCGS and got back a bunch of them in very high grade. I was able to go through over 100 different examples and basically cherrypick out the best ones :)

Most importantly, he was lucky enough to get two of them certified as PCGS MS67RB. The 67RB grade is extremely tough. In fact, to date PCGS has given the grade only to about 60 wheat cents ever, and almost all of those are dated 1939 and up. Only three 1909 VDBs exist in 67RB and I now own two of the three :)

The dealer also made around 25 1909 VDBs in PCGS MS66RB, which is no small accomplishment. I pulled out the 6 I liked most and bought those, this one is my favorite of that bunch.

All of the photos were taken by Todd of BluCC photos right at the Long Beach show. He does excellent work, especially considering that although these slabs were relatively new, they were also really beat up and had huge hits and gouges into the plastic. All I did with the images is crop them and resize them to fit on the forum since before resizing the raw cropped image is about 2400x2400!!! Todd is able to work his magic and get clear shots even through the worst of the marks on the slabs. Here's a sort of before an after example of what he was able to do on one of the very worst gouges on the 66RB slab:

i find it hard to believe that all of those are BN. i guess they give alot more leniency to large cents or even IHCs.

Those are some nice looking coins. Woodies and still got a descent grade. Just about all the woodies I have seen get stomped on for grades.

We like the red ones as well :) I currently have this one in at PCGS, along with my entire 1909 Mint Set, for Secure Plus regrading and pedigree service. Perhaps this one will get bumped up to MS67+RD??

Well that one above didn't get regraded a 67+RD, but I still think it's a pretty high end example of an MS67RD VDB. That didn't keep me from getting a 67+RD though. Yep, I'm the one that bought the lone MS67+RD example which was offered up in the recent Bowers & Merena auction. I had seen it in hand a few times before as it was in the inventory of Angel Dees. It's a beautiful example and probably the best 1909 VDB I've seen. I'm very happy to have won it in the auction and feel I got it at a relative bargain price. So far it's the only one graded 67+RD, but even if another coin or a few others get that grade someday, I would find it hard to imagine another could surpass the overall appeal of this one, it really is that good.

The Op's coin is very nice, to say the least. I think buying the BN was a smart move for some obvious reasons. Great pickup !

The 67+ ROCKS! That's the finest 09 VDB I've ever seen by a long shot. Give us some better and closer pics please!

    ....oh....and you suck. :p :D
