Since I'm new at this, I have to ask - how did you know this is a proof?

found hundreds of wheat pennies over the years withmy dad.

My father has a '68 S dime... that should mean its a proof.
If you look at it, though, it looks like any other unc. dime--except the mintmark.

Years ago, I was at a hamburger stand and got Mercury dimes in change ! Turns out the entire batch of dimes they had in the till and rolls from the bank were Mercs. I bought all they had and tipped the cashier.

Looked through a pile of old coins my dad set aside because they seemed interesting, and found a 1898-O dime

I've already posted a pretty old thread about my story, but it's worth mentioning again. One time I was out on a walk, and as I passed the gas station next to me, I found a 1963 silver Canadian dime randomly on the side walk. Call me obsessive, but this is why I mainly look towards the ground when I'm walking somewhere: You never know what you're going to find, as I have found many valuable things by doing this.

The first 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics loonie I ever saw was one I found lying in the street just after it was released. I've only ever received one other in change.

About 8 years ago I was working as a bank teller and an elderly man came in to deposit a $500 bill. I wasn't collecting money at the time but I knew that this was unusual because I had never seen one before. I can't remember what year the bill was, but I bought it out of my till and ended up selling it on ebay for $1000.

Posted this a few years back, I recieved it in change at my local Burger King. Still is, and probably will always be my best coin find of any kind. Its the same size as a dime so I suppose it came out of that bin in the register. I've always wondered over the years why it ended up in my hand out of all the people who go through that place and how the heck did it ever get there. I did check with our local city police and sherrif's dept. to see if anyone reported a coin theft in the area. They came up with nothing. Lucky me

Now that I've been checking my coins, I've noticed that there are still a lot of war nickels out there, and circulating minor error coins (off center Lincoln pennies for the most part).

At a coin club in November, one of our members showed off a 3c piece he got in change. The teller was probably trying to pass off a "Canadian dime" and both thought they got the better end of that exchange.
