Only if you've seen silver wood.

That 09s is a nice one and will probably go for cheap. I blew the budget and then some for awhile otherwise I wouldn't have posted the lead. POst it up if you get it.

Couldn't afford that 1909-S but I got "WOOD"

I pulled about 30 woodies out of a bag I'm searching and decided to post 3 of the most exciting (to me anyway).

I like the 34 best, nice RB color to it. How come you didn't conserve the 1940's yet? :)

The only excuse I can give is that the Verdi-Care bottle is small and I have lots of coins to prep for sale on eBay :)
But I will be conserving all of the woodies that I have stacking up here. I am trying to think of a way to get younger collectors interested in completing "complete Woody Wheat Sets" , then I can cash in :)

This is one of the coolest looking 1909 VDB cents I've found in quite awhile. Just had to have it and it does have a woodie look to it too.

Thank you so much for explaining this. I always thought a woody was an old station wagon with a surf broad on the roof. Even after looking at the many post pics, I was missing the wood grain part.

The next time I sort through a bag (5,000 coins) of wheat ears, I will remember this thread. I pass on wheats to a nephew on a fairly regular basis. I probably should give him the heads up (pun intended).

Here's a 1921 S I just picked up with lots of graining and a lamination error as well.

Are most Woodys from the 1920's and 1930's?

As this thread shows woodies are found in almost all years even into the 80's but as previously stated by BadThad there are alot of woody's from 1921 for some reason. It seems especially prevelent in coins from the San Francisco mint.

Here's a recent aquisition. It is half red and half brown on the obverse. The reverse is brown and purple.
