Alright guys (and gals), A few months ago I posted a thread about a set of "50 State Pennies" I have. Several people expressed interest in a set like this and, although I haven't been able to find another set of 50, I found something close. Its a set of 13 1997 pennies with the 13 colonies stamped on them. I know its not worth much monetarily (word?) but I personally love stamped pennies like this. So here's the contest: First you must type "the weather is awesome" to be registered for the contest. Second: you must do this by midnight September 30/October 1. Third: At that time I will ask everyone registered to predict when, where, and how strong the next hurricane will be. Further rules regarding scoring are forthcoming. If no hurricanes make landfall in the US then I will put all the names in a hat and draw. If there is a tie I will do the same. *Contest limited to continental US only (sorry, can't afford shipping any further out) ** Disclaimer** This contest is not meant to predict the misfortune of others, I am just a weather freak and thought this would be an intersting contest. If anyone is offended please state so and I will come up with another set of primary rules and make this one the tie breaker. Good luck to all.
Linc-What part of NE GA are you in? I grew up in Toccoa and thanks to being directly in the May 5th, 1989 tornado that hit I'm also a wx junkie. The weather is awesome!
I'm in Cleveland. I wasn't alive in '89 but I remember the '98 and the '04 tornados. And in April of '08 I was standing outside when a funnel went over the local IGA. It was cool to watch but I was standing there thinking "don't touch down, don't touch down..." lol I started school this year at North Georgia State College (the school that still uses the old mint building) to get a degree in meteorology.
The weather is awesome. This sounds like an interesting contest. And the weather is pretty nice here, the desert heat of summer is slowly easing, but then it usually gets cold pretty quickly... last year one morning it was 8 degrees F out down at my chicken coop, all the small duck ponds and chicken waters freeze over every morning in the winter..... that is cold. The ducks don't mind, if I break the ice, they will jump right in it, even with the chunks of ice floating in it.... they must be well insulated. Freezing cold winters, and super hot summers. Here is a snapshot I took of a thermometer.... '129F'. I took this a couple years back, not that it hasn't been just as hot recently.
the weather is awesome PS By the way I found the 50 state penny collection https://www.theworldreserve.com/product/CSLCF/U.S.-Cents/50-State-Penny-Collection
The weather is awesome, however, since the air conditioning broke in my classroom I am not looking forward to the next few days. Fall is here, and with it warmer weather?
