    Hi Guys,

I found this coin at home and have no recollection of where it came from! I'm pretty sure it's fake as it looks to good to be true. But any advise or opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah that's a queen Elizabeth piece. Looks in decent nick ! I don't have any hammered stuff so would have nothing to compare it with regarding fakes or not but to be fair it seems legit to me ! What's the diameter so we can work out the denomination ?

    Thank you =] it's 2cm. Really light weight - about 1g!

Thank you for the input. I know nothing about real / fake coins so it's interesting! I was convinced it was a fake but it would be nice to know it is not =]

Looks to be OK although difficult to be sure without handling it. If you have a local jewellers with a "gun" they can confirm the silver content - should be 0.925 silver - and then you are OK.
Elizabeth I Threepence 1562, S2565 in the Spinks catalogue, mint mark Pheon.
My 2011 price guide gives £35 in Fine and £135 in Very Fine. I would put this somewhere between the two.

To me the Elizabeth Shilling appears to be a cast piece. Jellos coin I think is a 1622 3 groshen from Poland.

I believe you are right ,the flange around the edge of the Elizabeth shilling makes it look like a cast piece. I have seen quite a few cast coins that were lead with a nickel plating over the lead.

I still would not want to say "copy" or "fake" without handling it. Also, bear in mind it is a Threepence not a Shilling - so much smaller. I think if you adjust your eyes to something much smaller it looks more natural as a hammered coin than a cast copy.
