if anybody has any ebay finds (for lack of a better phrase) post them here. this can include any coins that you have bought on ebay that are worth quite a bit more than you paid for them. i have not really seen many coins on ebay that i would consider (ebay finds). though i have heard of many people that claim that they have made many nice coin finds on ebay.
Best I can say is an 1864 L IHC that I bought for $26 that came back MS63BN from NGC. Sold it though. Sorry no pics.
This was my best deal: http://www.cointalk.com/t218437/ Link to the FeeBay auction is no longer active because the auction is from December 2012. Summary: $164 melt + face value worth of Kennedy halves for $86.99 shipped. When they arrived and everything was as promised, I sent him some extra money via PayPal because I don't want to take advantage of anyone.
Woot! I just picked up 5 sets of silver proof quarters for melt! http://www.ebay.com/itm/321096778049
Just bought this last night! http://www.ebay.com/itm/160996463637?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Picked this up a few days ago and hope that it's as good as I interpreted from the photos. Plus the die chip over "T" in Liberty is neat: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-D-FRAN...BBjL3KPokWw9BEsjWHcNM%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
Ill post a couple more of my recent ones: 1853 N32 R4 variety, this one is in the CC, probably around 9th best known w book value around $300: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390558353988?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 1851 N6 die e, with a cud on the reverse below the ribbon. This is the 7th known coin in this die state, no idea what it will sell for at auction but easily $200+: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200901252679?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 1804 C4 half cent which is an R5 variety. Heavily corroded so I have no idea what it will sell for, but it's worth more than I paid: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281068021637?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I can't remember the exact details offhand, but there's a variety of the 1955 Mexican 5 centavo that is worth $55 in F according to Krause. I found someone selling a lot that contained one and got it for about $6. Apparently no one noticed it.
Two items of recent note were purchased at a bargain price on eBay. The first is a gold-plated silver 5-pound British crown for the royal wedding of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge for just US$49.95 The second is the full set of 28 uncirculated, $A5.00 coins for the Sydney Olympics in 2000 for below face value at US$117.00.
A recent coin I particularly love is the one below. It wasn't a "steal" or a monster that's going to make me rich by flipping it, but it's an absolute show stopper in hand for the scant $85 I spent. It will be in my collection for a very very long time, and I don't know if I'd even let it go for $1k.
Just got this yesterday. After considering the price of the other two coins in the group, I got it for about 1/10 the lowest price on Vcoins right now.
I agree, I do love old coppers. You can still get very pretty copper world coins very cheaply at times.
It's always satisfying when I put in a maximum bid of like $20 and the auction ends for around $2, because I really feel like I got it for a steal, since I was willing to pay so much more for it.
...and I hate it when I put in a maximum bid of $20 and the item ends with the bidding only going up to $2 because there was a reserve price and nobody else bid on the item. I think FeeBay should make it so the bidding will automatically go up to the reserve price at the end of the auction if there is no more bidding activity.
Good thought. I would like that as well. It sucks if you would have paid the reserve price, but lack of competition never got you there, and then the seller won't sell it to you for that. I have some snipes set for some reserve auctions, and I will almost guarantee you this will happen to me on at least one of them.
Just imagine a traditional live auction did that: Auctioneer: CanIgetonedollarwho'llgimmeonedollarjustonedollar...? Bidder 1: One dollar! Auctioneer: Onedollar,doIheartwodollarstwodollarsgreatcoinheretwodollars? You: Twenty dollars! Auctioneer: Twodollarsnow,lookingforthreedollarswho'llgimmethreethreethreegimmethreedollars...nobody. Sorry folks, there was a reserve price on that item, so we'll move on to the next item, a kid's mattress! Still has the sheets on it, who'llgimmeonedollaronehundredcentsonedollar, OK, fiftycentsfiftycents...
I like FeeBay's "Best Offer" feature because I know most people submit lowball offers shortly after the aucion is listed. So when my reasonable offer comes in, their lowball offers make my offer look good. I stumbled upon a BIN with Best Offer enabled auction for 5x 2003 silver proof sets, with a quantity of 2. It had been listed late last night, and there were already 6 declined offers. I submitted an offer that was about 2% over melt plus face value for the non-silver proof coins for all 10 sets. Offer accepted. :thumb:
