I had found some star notes while searching. when I entered this in the "my currency collection" website to look it up I was a 320 k run so I put it aside ( months ago) going through my things tonight I noticed it also had a mismatched SN. correct me if I'm wrong... but 320k run is kinda rare right? I know it is a little beat up.... but had to share. being this is my first mismatched I have to ask... with all the facts out there... I have to ask...how rare is this type of thing and what is it potentially worth? ty in advance
Wow! I don't know the value but that's the first one I've ever seen or heard of! (But in this business rarity doesn't mean value, demand does). Still, AMAZING circulation find!
shame of the condition. would be worth a nice chunk of change in GEM. still should be able to get a decent price to the right collector
Excellent find! These are quite valuable. A 320k printing is small when it comes to currency. Unfortunately this number does not affect the value of an error. The number of notes with this error is irrespective of the number printed for the series. There have been a number of these exact notes found in circulation. Here is a thread with some finds by other forum members: http://www.cointalk.com/threads/2006-1-mismatched-serial-number.238403/ Regardless, it is valuable and should fetch a nice sum!
thanks for that thread... if you open the thread and look at the first one on top mine is approx. 1700 off from this one.
Judging by the observed serials, it looks like 10,000 of these got out of the BEP (06710001 to 06720000). Mismatched serials are fairly uncommon, but when they happen, they often happen in batches like this. Yours is the 34th different serial number I've recorded for this particular mismatch, and there are surely a lot more of them in the collector market than I've personally seen. So while it's a terrific circulation find, it's not worth *crazy* crazy money. Some of the first examples found and sold (back in 2010) went for $3000 or so, but those were in better shape and also went up for sale before it became clear how many of these there would be. Yours ain't gonna fetch close to that, I'm afraid.
