Don't actually collect paper money, but of the notes that I come across, I really like the current Swiss designs. This is what they look like: http://www.snb.ch/en/iabout/cash/current/design/id/cash_current_design_principle http://www.snb.ch/en/iabout/cash/history/id/cash_history_serie8 (Yes, that 1995 series is still the current one. The first note of the new series will not come out until 2012.) As for the second question, the US dollar is not legal tender here in the euro area, for example, and the euro is not legal in the US. But of course businesses and others are free to accept such foreign cash. And especially in border areas that is fairly common. Now in those cases the rate may well be different from the exchange rate you would get at a bank or change office; think of that difference as a convenience fee. In some countries the import and export of the local currency is limited or even prohibited. But since your question is about the US, that is not an issue. Cash with a value of up to $10,000 you can simply bring in; amounts exceeding that limit are basically OK too but have to be declared. (Similarly, when you enter the EU or cross an EU internal border, you need to declare cash amounts exceeding €10,000.) In other words, if I flew to New York City with twenty thousand euro cash in my luggage, I would have to tell US Customs about that. But the store in Manhattan that I then go to may very well accept the money - no legal reason to change it ... Christian
Thank You for clearing it up! I for one am proud of our dollar and currency as a whole. I feal safe in our own currency and love the new designs. Finally to hear from someone who has a real handle on this a simular currency is very special to me. I studied Law while obtaining my Juris Doctor in Villanova Universary School of Law and in neither constitional law or any other aspect never even touched this topic. How can we expect everybody else to understand the fundamentals our working such a valuable commodity except hearing it from someone as yourself. Since my stroke in Costa Rico, 6 years ago, unfortunatly things are a bit harder to understand. That being so, I really appreciate your patience and understanding.
My main "problem" with US dollar notes is that they all have the same size. In terms of color they have become a little better but, being used to different denominations having different dimensions just like coins, I still find it somewhat difficult to keep them apart. Now our (euro) notes play that "different sizes" game a little too excessively, I think: Not only the widths are different but also the heights (except for the €200 and €500 which have the same height as the €100 note). Maybe it boils down to what one is familiar with, but some difference in size I appreciate ... Christian
i have travelled 2 Vietnam last month they use paper money and coin It is seem that coin is not popular 'coz they are afraid children play and swallow it
Diffferent size currency I'm sure would help the visually impaired as would braille surely help. Our mint must be commended in producing a braille coin, although just a commemerative for now. Any suggestions? As per a swallowed coin I will ask my friend in the emergency room, It can't be that much a problem or I'm sure more cases would have surficed. PS I must commend You for Your 'way cool' display.
Well like most people i started with coins, I still have a few but no Longer actively collect, From there i went to notes because of the Awsome art work, But i found myself all over the place small size Large size, Silver and Gold certificates way to many to keep track Of :rolling: Then i found Mpc !! iam kind of a war nut anyway and collect alot Of stuff from the Korea and Vietnam conflicts, I started out with Raw, Uncertified stuff which i still have over 300 of them, So i Went ahead and took it to the highest level Certified notes and Iam constantly closing out sets, This is what makes it fun, I have All ready completed 641, and with in one or two notes of several Other,s :thumb:
Dont worry you will see alot more, Ive got some cool stuff that I will be posting soon, So stay tuned!
Do you collect any foreign MPC's? Being a history buff I recently came across some Wehrmacht issued reichsmarks which i just couldn't resist although they lack the art work of american ones I love the historical importance behind them...
Nice notes mpcusa! I used to collect Fractional Currency. Actually I just got away for a few years and I'm starting to shop again. I like the size, colors, history, vignettes and the things they were doing to keep them from being counterfeited. The first issue with the perforated edges w/o monogram, the third and fourth issues are my favorites. The artwork is amazing and the autographed notes are just plain history and I love it. The MPC currency is very colorful as are loads of foreign currency but sheesh, I'm just a working man. I've collected a few coins but the first fractional was a fifth issue 10 cent note with green seal and Meredith's face. The coin dealer had it labled "green Grumpy" and that suited me just fine. It was pristine in my untraind eye and proved to be uncirculated by one of the TPG companies. It was my fave for a long time and it slipped away a few years ago.......I have reasons. I could go on but this is enough for a junior member. Cheers! Oh, one more thing, I bought most of my notes raw. I didn't trust TPGs but they were tough to sell with out being graded.
It has to be the old large-size currency for me. I enjoy the MPCs as well and have a few (nowhere near as nice though!!), but horse blankets are my favorites. Out of those, <-------- I like this one the best!
