Pennywise, thanks for the Ken Barr link I spent about 1/2 looking at images while preparrng an order.
$100 Hawaii Notes (1896 and 1898) Their are two different $100 Hawaii Notes 1896 and 1898,The reason being in 1896 the British occupied the Republic of Hawaii ,you can see the Union Jack British Flag under the globe this was the 1896 issued Republic of Hawaii Notes. In 1898 the US occupied the Hawaiian Islands ,you can see that the Stars and Strips the US Flag under the globe this was the 1898 issued Hawaiian Islands Notes. The ABNCO printed the notes for both the 1896 series and the 1898 series.
That $20 Hawaii is a hoot! Technicolor, classical figures and a freaked out looking horse giving us the stink-eye*! *btw, 'stink-eye' is apparently Hawaiian Pidgin slang
LOL ...never heard of 'stink-eye' is apparently Hawaiian Pidgin slang but your right that horse looks freaked out !
$10 Republic of Hawaii 1896 (Gold Cert) The Sugar plantation scene was engraved by James Smillie in 1882 The engraving of the S.S Furnessia was also engraved by James Smillie in 1884 The engraving of Liberty was engraved by Alfred Jones in 1894
The vignettes on these notes are terrific. I especially like the views of the workers preparing the crops.
The Hawaiian Islands (US) & The Republic of Hawaii (British) notes are so expensive & rare ,this is the only way I could possable have an engraving from original ABNCo dies. I'm glad you also like them as much as I do. I have a few more to post.
