I have been lurking on this site for a few years, and followed this thread with some amusement, since my collecting specialty is Canadian small cents, and striking errors therein. I was involved back in the craziness and sarcasm slinging when this coin was being promoted on CCRS in 2010, along with Bill in Burl and other Canadian error collectors/experts. So I finally decided to join and post - call me guilty of loving a good debate and calling-it-like-I-see-it.

This is a flip-over double struck in collar. Nothing more. The devices of the dies did not alter or change to create this error, and being incuse on the dies, the devices of the dies that struck this coin have to explain the net result that is this coin.

Most errors like these, the second flip-over strike is off-centre, and it is a scarce coin to be flipped over and struck twice in collar. Note that I said scarce, but certainly not unique or anything worth more than $500 in the Canadian collector error market. I own several examples of Canadian 1-cent coins similar to this, and certainly the most common is 1969 whereby one can find double struck and flip over double struck coins (in collar). An example of mine is certified by NGC as MS-65 red, and I only paid $350 for it. Usually, in recent Canadian coin auctions, with 1-cent errors, I am a strong buyer, so my opinion is anything but delusional.

Of course, I suspect my opinion, much like many of the intelligent error collectors who have already posted in this thread, will be ignored. This site, and your patience as a collecting community is to be commended for this thread, because you politely tolerated much more manure slinging than I could possibly ever handle.

First off welcome to the CT forum. I totally agree with you and this is the same words I said about this coin earlier. It seems like the op can't grasp onto the fact of how the maple leafs got onto the obverse side . He must think there was some kind of a special die that did this. the reason the maple leafs are on the queen's head is because the coin was struck putting them on there the same as a normal coin. then the coin managed to get flipped over and struck again. most of the reverse details were wiped out by the second strike by the obverse die . the maple leafs were protected because they went up into the deep part of the die where the queen's design was. I agree it is a nice error coin but not worth any more than what you said in my opinion.

I personally wouldn't limit it to just two.

The best thing to come out of this thread and other threads of this ilk, is that when these coins are googled, the interested parties will find out the values the sellers are listing are grossly overly inflated.

If these coins were as rare as the promoters say they are, collectors would have beaten a path to their respective doors. There is no path. And there will never be a path.

The saddest part is (allegedly) having to create a fantasy persona to convince members that the coin is what you say it is.

The internet is a small world where the answers are a few clicks away.

Time to pack up the dog and pony show and put it to rest.

Oh no not this again. I thought this had died, had deceased, was buried, and assumed room temperature. Gone the way of all flesh. Disintegrated. Was interred, entombed, and cremated.
