Today I received a 1934 $1 Funnyback note I bought from Ebay completing a goal of mine for a $1 type set. I bought the 1923, 1928, and 1934, and inherited the others from Dad. For those of you that get pristine notes, please appreciate my modest notes in lower grade. It is only a start, and I'll probably upgrade in the future, but I have 5 kids living at home and my hobby budget is not very hight. Still, I am quite proud of these and believe them to be a terrific start. I used to only be a coin guy, but the paper bug in my continues to grow! What I have in my little $1 note type set is major design changes since 1896. I believe the only one I don't have is a 1914 (correct me if I'm mistaken), and that isn't in the budget right now. Here's what I have (pics to follow): an 1896 "Educational" $1 note an 1899 "Black Eagle" $1 note a 1917 "SawHorse" $1 note a 1923 "Horse Blanket" $1 note a 1928 "Funnyback" $1 note a 1934 "Funnyback" $1 note 1 1935 Silver Certificate $1 note a 1957 Silver Certificate (with moto on the reverse for the first time) $1 note a 2006 $1 note representing the design from 196? to present a $1 star note in the present design Question: What was the first year of the current design? Why do they change the series # when the design didn't change now, when the 1935 series was made to the 1950s? Does that question make sense? Anyway, here are the first 3 pages of my paper currency notebook, my $1 note type set. (Forgive me, but after posting I see that I cut off some of the bottom of the notes in my scanner....)
Nice collections of $1's you have there. You might want to consider adding a 1963 series $1 FRN as it has the old design seal on it. Not really a major design change, but they're inexpensive enough to just grab one. For the 1957 series silver certificates, the design didn't really change, but they were the first printed on 32 subject sheets so that was enough reason for a major series change. The first year of the current design depends on what you consider the current design. Could be 1928 if you are just counting small size $1's with a picture of Washington in the middle, 1963 for the current design, but with the old treasury seal and 1969 for what is pretty much the exact same design we have today.
Very cool! I love those 'handled' notes just as much as the pristine ones I see shared on the forum. Great stuff you have there! Congrats! I'm looking for a '28 funny back but haven't gotten into the larger notes yet, although that '23 looks super neat!
Caught my post before I finished editing it with the answer... The current design was introduced with the 1963 series $1 FRN's, however those have the older treasury seal. The current design, with the updated treasury seal was introduced in 1969. "In God We Trust" was added during the printing of the 1935G series Silver Certificates. You can find that series with and without the motto.
very nice set indeed. :thumb: it is nice to finish up a certain collection. my problem is i start one then get into another one and another. you see where this is going
Nice collection Bobbeth. I have been wanting to do the same, but this little metal disks keep interferring with the process.
WOW! I only collect coins...but geez, that beautiful set of notes has me thinking twice. Great; that's all I need, another way other than coins to spend money. Congrats on completing your set! -LTB
Very nice collection Bob! Thanks for sharing. I have to stick to small size modern notes due to finances myself. You are also missing a few though: United States Note, alternatly known as a Legal Tender, with the red seal. Issued in 1928 only for the $1. It's a little pricey though...here's mine, I inherited this from my late father. I'm glad this is one that I did, because I would not have been able to afford one otherwise! Hawaii note from WWII and North Africa from WWII
Yes, Billy, those notes are out of my range right now.....I'll definitely look to add to this set later.....probably much later. But thanks for posting them!
Very nice never did that with currency ,i use to type set coins by demoninations & 19th & 20 Centry type of each denomination, great idea & great notes.
Way to go Bobbeth...Congrats..now get those other notes in there! Nice job, my hat's off to you. :thumb: Regards, RickieB
Bob, I nabbed the Hawaii note for I think it was $10! I inherited the other two so I didn't pay for them at all.
Wow. I thought the Hawaii note was more expensive than that........ I'd really LOVE to get the yellow seal one. I guess the "done" in the title is wrong, and it should read "done for now" with more to follow.
A better condition example would have been I just know that if I ever want to own an example of some of this stuff, I am limited to low condition copies or none at all!
