What is it and why do I have it?

I have the bottom of a shoebox covered with...... coins &~ like stuff.

I'm thinking about a contest where everybody gets to vote on what it is and whomever agrees the most with the identification is selected at random from the pool of idencal answers.

......or something like that.

Let me start with a simple....WHAT IS THIS?

It appears to be a round object made of a brownish material, possibly a metal, with shapes on it that are probably a result of placing said object in a mint like press.

The images are similar to a honan cash coin though.

I can answer the "why do you have it" question. Because you do.

The Chinese coin says it is to commemorate the beginning of the country "kai guo ji nian" and that it is the Republic of China. The beginning of the republic is taken as 1911 but the issue of this coin was later. Was a posting about it about a month or so ago under search for Taiwan. Have seen it on some Chinese web sites and is probably in Krause. Not sure what the 10 wen means. Tried to see if "wen" was a measure for currency but haven't found anything, yet. Will do a Chinese search later to see what comes up when I translate it in the google translation engine. If I find anything, I'll post another time. "wen" usually means "literature" or "literary." Would think it is the first coinage of the republican era but can't say that with any authority.

Did a web search for 中華民國開國紀念十文 and found the ROC coin. They translated the ten "wen" as "ten cash" on the English version and sometimes came up as "ten man" by the google translator.

such is the nature of the universe!

Ah, shall we get existential right now?

As Rene Descartes said: Cogito ergo sum. I think therefore I am.
As Frank Said: Cogito ergo Collectum. I think therefore I collect.

Ah, for the good old days of college.

Tokens, triangles, octagons, metal based flat objects that jingle & clink, have holes punched in them, round & square, been hit by trains, shot with guns and say they are good for 5 cents at the bar or can be chashed in at a casino.

Various alphabets, languages, dating systems, materials.

Thanks so far for helping me get the 1st ONE labeled.

Tomorrow I'm thinking of putting a magnet into the box and taking photos of whatever sticks to it.

The one that is good for 5 cents at the bar might be old.

Wonderful info. ThanX for the feedback, Weifin.

Guess I'm going to have to get a bigger flip to write all this info onto.
