    Hey gang!!

I have been in the market for one of these for some time now. I finally found the piece for me! I liked the cracked planchet. Graded PCGS VF30.

    Enjoy!

A true classic. Nicely centered. Congrats !

I recently missed on a sixpence. Non-buyer's regret; I should have chased it a little more than I did.

    Great!

I always wanted one of those.

And, I agree, the crack is kinda neat.

Wow, what can you say?? That would be the 'crown jewel' of a collection of Colonial-era coins. I'm happy for you!!

Congratulations Dutchman. That is a very nice coin, in a nice grade!

Like you, I also felt my collection of American coins had to include one of these.

Good thing also the weight at 71 grains is included in the label ( a recently encapsulated coin probably) - this indicates the coin was not clipped. The nominal weight for these was 71-72 grains.

Dutchman, I consulted Dave Bowers new book (Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American coins).

Your Small Planchet Pine Tree Shilling is a Noe-29, Crosby 14-R variety. The book notes it is usually well struck (like yours), and a popular variety. It has a rarity ranking (URS) of 10, meaning there are 250-499 specimens extant.
(There are 16 varieties of Pine Tree Shillings-Small planchet as per the book).

A nice coin, and one I would be proud to own!

    Regards,

    Eduard
