Howdy cj34 - Welcome to the Forum !!

The S ( San Francisco ) mint mark means the coin is a Proof.

Well, it could mean "silver" , but then again I'm betting it means San Francisco, California where it was minted.

Well, you don't expect to see Proof coins in a bank as they are not issued for circulation. They are sold to collectors. But every now and then one will make its way into circulation until another collector spots it - and then it's gone again.
