This piece walked into the shop this morning... A very strange piece. It is definitely silver (I would assume recovered Atocha silver???) Anyone ever seen one of these before? But yes, they were made (not sure if minted or cast) from silver recovered from the wreck. But it was not bars, those are way too expensive. It was coins that were damaged to the point of not being worth anything anymore that were melted down. As to value, I have no idea but you can bet they were sold for way more than they are actually worth.
