I need some help with determining value

i have a 1864 French 5 cent peice in about VG condition
the error is that the mintmark is doubled punched, first one punched normally, but the second punch was ooffcenter about a half-mintmark-letter length to the left

sorry, no pics,
i got a Lexmark X73, no good pos scanner

This series has two mint marks that look (to the relative newcomer to `furrin coins') as if they may have been mis-struck / double struck. Two letters joined together as a monogram. The first of these is `BB', indicating that the coin was minted in Strasbourg. The second is `MA' indicating that the coin was minted in Marseille.

Now, if your coin has a different combination of letters as a mint mark, then it possibly is an example of a `double punch' as you put it. THAT would be something.

However, I suspect you are simply mistaking a normal mint mark as being an error.

There are other similar examples of double letters used as mint marks in French and other national coinages (Italian, Spanish, and Spanish colonial come to mind).
