planetman,

Well, if it was truly 24kt Pure Gold, then the actual value based on it's Gold content, would be around $31.46 based on current Gold spot! However, knowing natural Gold fairly well, I know that many natural Gold Nuggets range from 22kt to 23kt purity. However, there are many, many more that are well under 18kt in purity. Based upon your pics, I would say that your' Gold Nugget is only 22kt at best based on the color (unless the color scheme is off)! Even if the Gold Nugget is only 22kt, you still have a very sellable piece as Gold Nuggets are extremely collectible and sometimes the price that it brings is more based on eye appeal of the Nugget itself and to a lesser extent on it's purity. Based upon what I can see of the Gold Nugget and the weight, I would venture to guess that it would bring close to $50 and possibly more on eBay. You will need to provide much better close-up pictures of it if and when you decide to sell it.

In any case, that is a really, really nice find! I wish that I could get even close to that size of Gold Nugget during my prospecting trips to North Carolina, Georgia and here in Tennessee!

I copied and pasted the pics to my' PC and cropped them, so that everyone can get a better look at the Nugget!

planetman,

These pics are better in size but the color has changed! If you decide to sell the Nugget on eBay or elsewhere, make sure that the background is not just plain...bright white and that you have some contrast and that the color of the Nugget is correct. Also, it would be a good idea to have a ruler or a Dime or something else laying beside the Nugget when you take the pics, to give at least some definition as to it's size. Also, so that any bidders can see that the Nugget has great eye appeal, provide pics of both sides.

Frank

Nice nugget! The good thing about nuggets is their value is not based on their gold content alone. I go to the local GPAA gold show every year and I've seen nuggets half that size sell for $75-125 depending on shape. It's not the bullion that people pay for, but the fact that it's a natural nugget in an interesting shape.
